I've been using office for years and I've never had problems using it, I've always found a way of doing whatever I needed doing.

Office 2007 however, I'm struggling to find and make use of the most basic functions which used to work in previous versions.

At the moment, I've created a graph in Excel and want to edit the names of the series in the legend without renaming it on the spreadsheet.

Now, in previous versions excel, simply double click the series name in the legend and type the new name - sorted!

This doesn't work in Excel 2007 and I can't figure out any way of changing it.

Can anyone help me?? Otherwise, back to Office 2003.

Just use Office 2003 mate. Still using it here, still does everything I want/need it to. Office 2007 is a load of bloated shite, the same as all new Microsoft software.

It's an office programme for crying out loud, it serves a purpose, there is no need to keep changing the way it works all the time. Oh, there is, it generates $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ if the new one looks and feels different to the old one.

The start menu system change in Vista from XP, is a prime example of changing things for the worse, simply to make it look/feel different. Start Search is an excellent tool, but the start menu itself should have been left well alone, the new one is pathetic, slow and disfunctional compared to the old one.

With Office 2007
there is loads of options turned off, look in the preferences / options and you can turn on most of that stuff.

But i'm not sure if it will resolve its self for that one joe.

Yep, I'm sticking with 2003, nice to have something you can use!

I used office 2007 for a month or so and then went back to office 2003 but saying that there was nothing wrong with office 1997. Like every thing else all that happens are more bells and wistles are added like with the O.S. I have stuck to using XP.

One thing I don't really understand with the change from Microsoft's perspective, is that now people who are trained/experienced in Office 2003 or earlier, will need some basic re-training to learn to use Office 2007, to do the same task's as they were previously.

I can't understand what this achieves for Microsoft? In my opinion, it actually alienates their paying customers, because now companies are either going to stick with Office 2003 and avoid Office 2007, or alternatively, ditch Microsoft Office all together, and jump across to OpenOffice/StarOffice etc...

Microsoft have lost their way completely imho.

I totally agree. To have learned Office 2003 then to learn the '07 update is very frustrating and time-consuming. The basic shortcut keys still work but the menus can be confusing. When you eventually do know your way round the menus, it is quicker and easier to produce work. Sometimes we get so complacent that everything becomes routine - this is one of those shake-up calls. And worthwhile. I have only mastered the word and spreadsheet elements - lots more to go! Apprehensive and not looking forward to learning and making mistakes - but keeps the old grey cells recharged and working! Good luck.
