Took a trip down to Nottingham today to the Nationals show ground for this year and to meet with the organisers. Great day and got loads sorted out. Driving back doing approx 100mph along the A53 or somit and started loosing all power....... Looked in the mirror and somit wasnt quite right. There was a huge white cloud following me.... Nope it was white smoke pouring from my exhausts, i mean big time and i kept on loosing more and more power and had to roll into a lay-by.... Hmmmmm.... Not looking good at all !!! Phoned the AA and waited for a hour for a local garage recovery company to arrive. They recovered us about 5 miles away to there garage and there was a roadside AA guy there in his little van. He took one look and phoned the central control for the AA. The AA would not pay for this recovery company to take us home so he dropped my car off the wagon and we were left abandonded at this closed garage for just over a hour until a AA recovery wagon arrived, he loaded us up and started taking us home, yipee, at last..... Well, not that simple was it. This recovery driver was finishing work in 2 hours therefore he could not take us all of the way. He took us north on the M6 to Knutsford services where he dropped us and the car off and left us to await another hour for another Recovery wagon to arrive, load us up on the third recovery wagon and take us home finally. Not a good day at all for us.... The standards of service i recieved today from the AA was appauling. Three recovery trucks, three hours waiting between trucks coming and going all to get home. It took 8 hours to get home for a simple 2 hour journey.

fawk that is not good at all, surely the engine is under warranty?? if its not I would be gutted. About the AA I would be seriously sending harsh emails to them and asking them if they can give you an explanation, I would demand a refund or some free stuff .. It will be sad if its something serious and you have to get rid of the Scooby. Gutted for you mate..

Hmmmmm.... Nissan Skyline, who knows eh A E-Mail somit like this ???? To Whom It May Concern, I am writing to you to complain about the standards of service I received today following a breakdown in the Nottingham area. I have documented the list of events below for your appraisal.
Broke Down A50 : 14:25
Contacted AA via telephone at 14:26
Sub-Contract local garage arrived at 15:20
They took us approx 5 miles to the local recovery company’s premises, arrived at 15:35
Met with a AA Roadside Assistance vehicle to confirm the vehicle could not be repaired.
The AA roadside assistance vehicle driver contacted AA via telephone and the AA would not pay for the recovery to my home address via the local garage who recovered us from the roadside. We were informed we would have to wait until a AA recovery vehicle was available to take us to my home address. My vehicle was un-loaded from the first recovery truck and we were left to wait for another recovery vehicle to arrive. We were at the local garage car park(which was closed for business) for 1 hour and 11 minutes with a 8 year old in the cold and wet with no heating before the next recovery vehicle arrived at 16:46
I requested a courtesy vehicle from the AA employee in the roadside assistance vehicle as my AA Membership states I am entitled to a courtesy vehicle for 24 hours. I was informed I could not have one until tomorrow (Monday) as all the Europcar rental offices were closed. I have read through your terms and conditions and I am unable to find where it states this is only available during restricted times. I was informed by your roadside assistance vehicle driver this service was only available Monday to Friday 08:00 – 18:00 as these are Europcar opening times. Also there is a Europcar rental service available at West Midlands Airport which is open until 22:30 on Sundays.
During the time we were left waiting in the car park I made two telephone calls to the AA Breakdown number to attempt to find out when we would be recovered. The second telephone call was with BAZ from your Deployment office, west midlands at 16:30 At 16:30 he told me the recovery truck would arrive in 5 minutes (16:35) The recovery truck finally arrived at 16:46
The driver loaded my vehicle onto this recovery truck and we finally departed the garage car park at 17:00 some 1 hour and 25 minutes after arriving there and some 2 hours and 34 minutes after my breakdown.
Once we were mobile the driver informed me he would not be able to take us all the way home as he would arrive back to your depot approx 45 minutes after his shift finishes therefore he requested a “LEG” (Vehicle transfer) via text message shortly after departing. Approx 30 minutes into the journey the driver received a telephone call to arrange the transfer of my vehicle to a third recovery truck. We arrived at Knutsford services on the M6 northbound at 18:15 and my vehicle was un-loaded for a second time.
We were left waiting at Knutsford services for another 42 minutes until the third recovery truck arrived. This driver loaded my vehicle onto his truck and departed Knutsford services at 19:06.
We finally arrived at the final location at 20:00 which is some 5 hours and 25 minutes after my breakdown. This whole journey should have taken under three hours including waiting 1 hour for the first recovery truck to arrive at my breakdown location.
I would like to take this opportunity to comment on the professionalism of the staff we dealt with today. All the drivers were very kind, polite and courteous to me and my party with the exception of BAZ from your telephone centre in the west midlands. I found BAZ to be very rude and abrupt during my telephone conversation and he raised his voice to me on several occasions.
To summarize I would like you to explain the following points :
Why was the first sub-contracted recovery not allowed to transport myself and my vehicle to my home address ? Why we were left waiting some 1 hour and 11 minutes in a car park of a closed garage with an eight year old child in the cold with no heating and wet. Why did the AA dispatch a driver to transport us to our home knowingly that the driver would not be able to complete this journey due to his shift finishing shortly after collecting us from the garage car park ? Why were we left another 42 minutes at Knutsford services waiting for a third vehicle to transport us for the final part of our journey ? Why was I not given a courtesy vehicle when I broke down as my membership clearly states ?
I am complaining about the whole situation I encountered today with the AA. Three recovery vehicles and three lengthy delays transferring my vehicle from recovery truck to recovery truck. I find this whole situation totally unacceptable and I am sure you must agree that it would not be unreasonable to expect to receive a much higher standard of service from a professional company such as the AA.
I will await your prompt reply to this e-mail with a full explanation of the facts that I have stated above.
Lets see what they have to say

Jay, gutted for you and the scooby mate hopefully it won't be TOO serious maybe a new turbo - shouldn't be the engine at 4,000miles! As for the letter dude, that is looking pretty smart keep up the pressure with the AA and threaten allsorts they will soon have to compensate you for the time you had to wait and ordeal you went through - what sort of recovery company can only get you home in the weekday and leave you effectivly stranded at the weekend with an eight year old! Really hope it goes well matey and keep us posted!

Lol, Personally Ive gone right off them matey On an "S" Plate though, it should be a VSPEC with all the goodies on it, and it looks a nice std car as a base to start on. Is it a UK car? The guy selling it, Steve Bagnall, is the guy I bought my old S14 off

yea that email is great Scooby. And looking to infinity and beyond.... That Skyline is scchwweeet. Nice clean car by the looks of things. The BHP capabilities are endless on them and the engines are nice and simple aswell, not like our complicated hard to work on Subaru's. All I can say is keep your head up mate it wont be long before you get yourself sorted.

think the skyline is a bit of an ovbious choice, there must be summit very few people have that would give you a lot of exclusivety!! the skyline will become like the scooby soon as the prices for the later models fall and lots of people having them takes the shine off it! look around brother scooby!!!

What happened 2 your last engine ,was it the same thing!!! If you've melted a piston it can only be down 2 , 1)toooo much boost 2) not enough fuel . Did this engine have forged piston's ?? If it din't get a set & thow them in and get it remaped , if running big boost you may need 2 get some bigger injectors as well.

I am unsure what happened to this engine yet as it isnt stripped. You have to remove the engine to remove the cylinder heads due to it being a flat 4 design and not enough clearance between the inner wings. The last engine melted a piston and i suspect this one has done the same ?? I should know by tomorrow what caused it. Skyline information needed - Whats the differance between the R33 & R34 models.
- Whats the differance between the GTS & GTR models.
- Whats the standard power of the NISSAN SKYLINE R33 GT-R V SPEC 2.6 TWIN TURBO 1998
- Whats the 0 - 60 of the above model
Any links to websites with additional information would be greatly appreciated

If you have melted a piston does that require a whole new engine or is it possible just to renew the piston? Get a set of lo-comp ones fella if its possible to replace em. Inhalf assume that the chamber may be fecked tho??

The 400R is very Rare, 99 where made, and only 44 where brought in to the UK, not sure how many are left though. The GTR is an RB26DETT - 2.6 twin turbo and 4wd The GTS is an RB25DET - 2.5 single turbo rwd The R34 is the newer version of the R33, and engine wise, near identical (There are only very slight changes. Both GTS and GTR motors produce 280bhp in standard form. With the GTR being 4wd the 0-60 is faster - just over 5 secs IIRC, though they are renowned for busting 3rd gear on 1/4 miles

They have Low-Compression pistons as standard being a turbo-charged car. You can replace the pistons but it involves splitting the crankcase in half and there are several special tools required. Anyways i will be hopefully getting a replacment engine from Subaru under warranty. Those links look great, Cheers

Well, the R34 is the newer car, and the GTR is the 4wd with the modding potential. However.......... The R33s are cheaper, and there are more parts available for the GTS's at much more reasonable prices - new and second hand. In std trim they are both the same power, and theres plenty of 500bhp GTS's kicking round. Ideally the R34 GTR is the best, but the prices of the cars and the parts is big bucks, GTR bonnets are £700, wings are near £500 each etc With the GTS being single turbo its also easier to work on, and the drive train is also simpler and less known for breakage. From the experience I had with mine, if you think £4500 is expensive for a new Scooby engine your looking at similar money for a 2nd hand GTR motor, I was quoted over £10k to rebuild mine to the same spec as when it let go, and thats before the turbos got rebuilt which would have been more

Id say the JHGFDCBNJU as it has the most letters, must stand for somethin that comes out of a bulls ass. Chuffed for ya mate, itd be a massive shame to see the scoob disappear. On the subject of the scoob 1. Does he/she have a name? 2. Did u ever get them stealthboxes and subs to put in em? 3.U gonna lower it if u can keep it? 4.U gonna de-tune the engine a bit to increase reliability? I think the fueling needs to be upped considerably and cooling needs improving too STI8 scoop n e one? Front mount intercooler? Chargecooler?

I think the fueling needs to be upped considerably and cooling needs improving too Fueling may need attention but it was not a hot day yesterday and it wasnt getting ragged therefore i dont think cooling is an issue

At that rpm the supply and demand of the engine is very high, and ACT temps will have been very high Did it "drop off" to 16psi?

What boost do they run @when standard ?? water injection is very good if running high boost as it helps keep intake temp's down . Any turbo car can suffer from melted pistons when the boost is turned up . A m8 of mine has just lost a piston on his rs4 , it's running 495 bhp , that was down 2 a faulty injector!!!!!! £13000 for a new motor so he's getting a set of pistons from germany, will phone a m8 who rebuilds scooby motors to see if he's got any think for you???

Does ACT stand for what i think it stands for, Air charge temp?
This is a very informative topic this.
I believe it is ur engine runnin hot mate. Youve got a 400BHP engine running underneath ur intercooler wafting it with hot air, this is stoppin ur intercooler doin its job and ur charge temp is well high. I think u need a more efficient 'cooler.U can do this by a/getting a front mounted intercooler, thus only cooling ur charge air as its nowhere near the hot engine b/Increasing the size of ur scoop to drown the cooler and engine with cold air c/water injection
Up to u mate but it definately needs it,ive not seen many 300+ BHP cars still runnin stock 'coolers Most sooped up cossies run massive coolers and ive even seen a 350bhp+ one that had its bonnet lifted at the back a couple of inches to aid cooling.
Isnt there some sort of thing u can do with nitrous to cool ur charge air??

Cheers Grizz, much appreciated matey. They run approx 12 - 14 p.s.i. as standard. ACT does stand for Air Charge TemperatureI was not running nitrous at the time so i was only pushing approx 300bhp. If it is a melted piston then obviously it is down to heat. You can either use a water spray on the intercooler to cool the charge down or nitrous/Co2 to spray onto the intercooler to cool the cool the charge down. The nitrous or Co2 are expensive, especially nitrous but allot more effective. Water is free but not as effective. I have been looking at a front mount intercooler but any decent one costs £1500

This has happened with me. I came onto the M53, belted it in 2nd, next thing the rear view mirror is full of white smoke. The head gasket went! Truly horrible feeling.

Are they new or used I am going to have to wait until i hear about the warranty on my current engine before i can decide whats going to happen GGS2500 : 2.5 Litre Subaru Short Engine Subaru
The latest American specification STi Impreza uses a 2500cc instead of 2000cc engine. This short engine is the basis of that engine.
Both engines are dimensionally the same, and this means that the cylinder heads, manifolds and all other ancillaries can be transferred from your 2 litre engine to create a 2½ litre version based on this short engine. (We have used these crankcases in our 500 BHP Impreza conversion).

Only heard about what happened tonight. Gutted for ya scoob. That 2.5 conversion looks monsterous and if Subaru don't pull through I reckon you go for it. Maybe you should get another car as a daily driver, something cheap to buy and run that'll stay on the road.

Scooby, you can get huge FMICs very very cheap, its the fitting that you would have the problem with. A decent sized cooler, say 300mm x 600mm x 70mm can be had for about £200, and then you just need to find someone who can make the hard pipes to fit it all in - this will certainly help with your intake temps. A FMIC is one of the first things Ive fitted to all my 200's as a matter of safety, and Ive also fitted an ACT gauge so I know how hot the air going in to the throttle body is. On both cars with a similar sized cooler to that mentioned above, even flat out on the motorway on summer days I dont think I ever saw the temp exceed 40C

Good news on the replacement, is't worth getting the heads flowed as there off , Have you got a alloy flywheel on it?? I fitted a set of manifolds 2 1 last year , that made a bit of extra power .

I dont know what to do Grizz, looking at maybe just fitting the new engine and selling it as i have lost faith and trust.
Its a bit like your wife cheating on you, you never quite get 100% trust back, there is always that shadow of doubt in the back of your mind....
Maybe its time to move on and get a new one but the question is what ??

TBH, I know its not a good thing, but I expected much worse and most of the piston to be missing. As the melting has occured on the side of the piston, and not in the center, I recon its run a little lean and done the damage. If a plug / injector had gone down, for sure, the whole piston would have been a gonna, but I recon its still had fuel flowing in there, just not enough to keep the entire chamber cool enough. Nice little Walbro jobbie if your keeping her when she goes back together

I am looking at possibly fitting this : GGS2500 : 2.5 Litre Subaru Short Engine The latest American specification STi Impreza uses a 2500cc instead of 2000cc engine.
With these following : - Forged Cosworth Pistons.
- 550cc Uprated injecters.
- Walbro Uprated Fuel Pump.
- FSE Power Boost Valve.
- Front Mounted Intercooler.
- Larger Turbo.
- Water Spray Intercooler Kit
- Remove the Nitrous Progressive Controller.
- Down Jet the Nitrous jets.
- Lower boost pressure slightly.
- Stand alone engine managment system
This would give me approx 350 - 400 BHP without any Nitrous. If i was to do this i would keep the car for the foreseeable future and see how it goes...... All opinions are welcomed on this option Or do i sell the Scooby and buy somit like this ?? Come on peeps, what do i do ????

Decisions decisions, I give up, i just dont know any more, its up to u jay, i think maybe u shud fix scooby doo and then sell her.To get the range. Or keep the scoob for the speed and the award winnin flames etc! On the one hand is a 450BHP scooby and the other is a well pimp range rover, both gr8 but for 2 very different reasons, ur choice mate but i back u either way

if your thinking of a range rover, then get the newer shape ones, that one looks a bit to farmer-ish with some big chrome rims and an install

In my eyes its to old a car to be called "pimp" I see pimp as, the newest reg/model available, at least 24's, biggest petrol engine possible, tints of course, chrome vents on the sides (available on the newer Range's) An "S" reg just doesnt look very pimp to me Cars that suit the "Pimp" look = New Range Rover's, New X5's, New Hummer H2's + H3's, New Lincoln Navigator's, New Cadillac Escalade's ALL in Black.....and in some case's....Yellow

I would seriously think twice about a british car. PARTS ARE TOO MUCH £££££££££££££ I had a Landrover before my scooby and I had nothing but hell with it, First the Viscous coupling went and that was like £200 to fix, then the IRD unit went and they wanted £2500 to fix that for a part the size if a football, then the Injector went on it and they wanted like £250 for that!!! The Price of the parts for Land/Range Rovers is too high because for some reason unknown to me, I had nothing but trouble with mine and was so glad to see the back of the damn thing, To be honest I personally dont think you can beat the Jap cars, Nissan, Toyota, mitsu and Scooby's. I know how you feel about your scooby backing out on you, but i would seriously have second thoughts about getting rid. Maybe what you can do is get all the tools needed to rebuild Scooby engines and offer that as a service @ your garage. If you think about it most places charge £1500 for a complete rebuild. I am sure that its not going to be a mission once you have the right tools. If you go down to CAS motorsport the dude always has like 3 engines to rebuild on the go, (3 x £1500 = Good Cash) The labour for it cant be that hard and technical, You would probably make back the cash that you laid out for the venture in the first 3 rebuilds and you will also have all the tools required to do your car whenever you blow the engine Just my 2 cents

Sorry to hear about that Jay. As you know I was forced to sell the Evo because of all the engine probs (and others) I had with it so I know how you feel. I thought I might have regretted selling it but I needed reliability and something to get me around the country without breaking down after a heavy right foot. I'm more than happy with the skyline. No where near as quick but it draws more crowds than the Evo ever did plus the handling/brakes are far better. I've had no problems with it up to now but from what I can make out on www.skylinesdownunder.com and www.skylineownersclub.com the GTRs can be very unreliable. The GTS is the more reliable of the 2 and far less complicated. If it was me, if you were to sell your car i'd go for the GTS, get some mods done plus they've got over 250BHP to begin with.

They've got some very nice skylines in keighley trade centre in Yorkshire much cheaper than the garage up the road from Autosafe and far nicer for less money. They usually have at least 6-10 in stock at any one time. Some of them are 500-750BHP as well

By personal law I make sure I never buy anything from W.Yorks anymore. Nothing comes cheap up there coz they're all too tight! Got charged £2.5k for £1k's work on the jeep by a place in Keighley

Get the Range Rover, love the 4x4's, mate of mine has an X5, proper cool pimpin cars with black windows.
Only problem is, these cars are stolen to order plus alot of people seem to generalise the owners of cars like these as drug dealers.

scoob the problem is this. u r a fat kid in a candy store that has eaten all the different bars at least 1nce. so what does he do???????? he a)leaves the sweet shop and buys sum tastey lettuce????????? b)throws up and eats em all again. my advice dont compare all the cars to the scooby now. compare them to the scooby in the start!!!! if then ur happy u r sure to be on the way to buildin a cover car!!!!!!!! p.s buy a noble from sumwhere or a city rover off me!!!!

hi m8,just read the thread regarding the scooby (thought i hadnt heard you roaring past for a while out side my little uns school ) shame the car threw a piston m8, gutted for you.Superb car too, admired it since i seen it m8.But, its your choice about changing for something more sedate. Personally i`d go for the rangey m8,waft along in those, especially with all the ice, rims and kit etc..., torquey as fek too. plus, you can carry a **** load of birds to cannes and back without feeling knackered. (think of the possibilities ) i used to have tuned cars all the time when i was younger, but got ****** of fettling with them all the time, and having work done, no let up in money costs m8. then i got married, became a dad (twice) and bought the veccy. slapped a load of screens in front and rear and i`,enjoying my current car more than anything i`ve owned. been to france 3 times, (north and south) and know that i`ll get there and back without breaking down and still feel refreshed when i get out. your scooby was a lovely car m8, in fact it was gorgeous, but if you got doubts m8,then your head is telling you to change it.Its a hard 1 to call really, cos cars have a strange way of getting attached to you, and you to them goin back to my vin rouge now m8, but good luck neway.

Subaru have started to **** me around with the warranty claim for the faulty engine. The dealer i bought it from has refused to refund me for the faulty engine now after agreeing to this several weeks ago. Also Subaru UK agreed to refund me once i returned the old faulty engine and to my dismay Subaru UK have also gone back on their word and also are refusing to refund me. I cannot understand the way such a huge organisation could possibly mess a customer around like this. I am buzy communicating and lodging a formal complaint with Subaru UK and getting independant engineers reports to back up my complaint. I will keep you posted as it progresses. On a slightly better note the Impreza is nearly out of its Coma now and should be breathing agian in the near future. The engine is fitted and just need to re-connect everythink back up now. Once i find a few hours spare the beast will be running again Once this is all up and running again it will be going up for sale with the boost levels turned down to standard boost and the Nitrous oxide down jetted to safer levels therefore 100% reliability prior to it being sold. I guess there will be a sad day coming soon when we go our seperate ways but needs must i guess.

Sorry about all the bad news Scooby! Only just read this after getting over bad news myself of my mother dying last month. I've also had a few weeks off on holiday as well. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw your avatar. It's funny because my mate has just e-mailed to say he's just bought a rangy and had to put 22" rims on the day he picked it up!! He well into his modding. He has an Esprit like mine but not as we know it. It's in the modyified nationals in light blue. Maybe a few of you saw him, his name is Karl from Burton-on-Trent? Iam hopefully going to be redying his interior for him soon. I redyred an Esprit interior from Grey to black and red, see link http://community.webshots.com/photo/85553252/89596567YntiKf Will have to start attending local meets again soon. looking to change my Vectra for something more interesting to mod!!!
