Bert thanks, that looks like it, I was cutting back the roses and that was behind them, I'll keep them there now I know it's not some drug. they look nice next to the roses. thanks to all for helping.

Eddtheduck - I think it is Thunbergia grandiflora. It was the only thing I could find with the correct seed head. The leaves are not visible in your picture so could not compare them. It seems to be a good plant not often seen.

Yup, without the leaves and a size comparison it's difficult. There's new breeds of plant beyond the basic ones too e.g. Thunbergia (Black eyed susan) has varients now.
