Police say the club, which historically was part of the Co-op Employees' Social and Welfare Association, is in breach of its licensing certificate due to excessive late noise when drinkers leave.

got this from a report in the echo few years ago when the club was re-aplying for its license

A FIGHT involving 30 youths could today see a social club lose its licence after an application by Merseyside PoliceMerseyside Police is the Home Office police force responsible for policing Merseyside in North West England.

The force area is 647 square kilometres with a population of around 1.5 million. At present the force has 4,466 police officers plus over 2,000 police staff.

Licensing officers have delivered a dossier of residents' complaints to Wirral Council over the ESWA ESWA Elder Services of Worcester Area, Inc Sports and Social Club on Park Road South, Birkenhead, and a hearing was at 10am at Wallasey Town Hall today.

Police say the club, which historically was part of the Co-op Employees' Social and Welfare Association, is in breach of its licensing certificate due to excessive late noise when drinkers leave.

Neighbours had reported thirty young people fighting outside the club.

Today, the licensing committee could revokeTo annul or make void by recalling or taking back; to cancel, rescind, repeal, or reverse.

The police dossier reads: "It became very apparent that a large number of functions were being booked by non members." Chairman of the club Bob Nunn said: "I think a lot of this is exaggerated, this has been just one incident of serious trouble in three years. There is a lot of drinking that goes on in the park and that is what has caused the trouble."

copy of full report, which was in 2009

Used to call it the Co-ey club from when I was a kid. The Buffs used to meet in there at one time, or at least one of the Lodges. Used to have good entertainment at weekends. Once the management lets all and sundry in then the bovver kicks off eventually.

Well holy crap, this place shut down in october 2012.

It was burnt down yesterday by some dickheads.

What i was amazed by though is that this was the home of Andrew Irvine, one of the first men to reach the peak of mount everest in 1924.
His body has never been recovered, his mate from slatey road was discovered when a clean up operation was done on everest in 1999 (George mallory).

Work seems to have stopped on the ESWA club, place has been made secure, roof has been waterproofed by roofing felt and battons but not slates/tiles put on.
