The Commercial Hotel on the 1875 street plan, with the 1955 OS map of the same area for comparison:

Hi I am trying to establish which pubs or hotels were in Tobin Street. I have the following so far The Ferry Hotel, The Ferry Pier Hotel, The Egremont, and the Long Pull. Does anyone have any photos or info about the these, or landlords, positions in the road their fate? I have checked some details in Kellys Directory for 1894, and have the following,
Cecil Dawson Hoskins (landlord) Ferry Pier Hotel Thanks Jess

The true answer is none!
Dock Road is in Wallasey, its equivalent in Birkenhead is Corporation Road, then Beaufort Road.
The boundary between Birkenhead and Wallasey is down the centre of the docks, passing through the middle of the Duke St Bridge, and the middle of the dock that is now the car park for the Irish ferry terminal. ( This means the road entrance for the Terminal is in Wallasey, but the boat leaves from Birkenhead.)
There used to be town name signs as you went over the bridges, but these dissapeared when they were refurbished, and have never been replaced by Wirral Council. And, since 1974 when Birkenhead and Wallasey all became part of Wirral, I can't recall an official map showing the actual boundary.
To add to the confusion, the Post Office use their method of naming convention to give premises on Dock Road, Wallasey, a Birkenhead address, and the phone box at the end of the Dock Road had a Birkenhead telephone number!!
Sorry to go off topic a bit.
So, which road did was it?

If you take theDock Hotel (Dock Hotel Shore road) Freeman Street as being the start of Corporation Road
Wheatsheaf Hotel 39 Corporation Road 39 2 to 4 Pool Street 2/4
Royal Hotel Corporation Road Cathcart Street known as Dolphin Hotel
Mersey Arms Hotel Corporation Road Neptune St
Royal Duke Hotel Corporation Road Duke Street
Halfway House Patten Street (possibly part in Corporation Road)
and
to throw into the mix on an 1889 map Hoylake Road going from St James church towards Moreton was called Corporation Road
Bidston Hotel Bidston Hill Hotel 50 to 52 Hoylake Road once called Corporation Road
