What a day!

With the wet conditions at Oulton at the previous meet, Croft was a whole new thing - new circuit and testing conditions - mainly a damp (but drying track) with the threat of rain always imminent!

I opted for a comprmised setup being not to hard, but not to soft to try and be ready for whatever the weather had to throw at us!

Format was 1 practise / qualifying session to determine the grid for the first race and the results from that race being the grid for the 2nd race.

I qualified 4th overall - next to Carl in the superfast Civic who was nearly 4 secs a lap quicker

First race got off to a great start, leaving Carl behind on the grid and going in to the first corner in 3rd behind the M3 and RX7. Went in a bit fast, and had a huge sideways moment which allowed Carl to get right on me up the back straight - then it all went wrong!

Watching my mirrors too much I braked on my hot braking point, and on cold tyres went straight on, in to the kitty litter, and out the other side in to a corn field!! I eventually found my way back on to the circuit (The corn was higher than the car lol) in last place.

Put in a few fast laps, and I was soon up with the back of the field, passing 2 cars before catching the 7 liter Camaro. I was much faster through the corners, but was getting left for dead on the straights, and going in to "Sunny In" - a 3rd gear right hander, I thought I spotted a gap - went for it, only to have the door closed and made contact with the Camero (1.15sec in to the 2nd vid) Fortunatly it was a mear nudge which didnt really do much harm - the Camero scratched a few vynils, and I got a smashed indicator and dented front wing! Couldnt really find a way past and finished 7th - 3rd in class!

2nd race - again, I got a demon start, pulling along side Dave Hill in the CRX on the row in front of me, but on a damp track and the event from the first race in the back of my mind, I gave room, and tucked in behind him. Nose to tail for about 4 laps, I found out where I was a little quicker, and set him up along the back straight for a nice clean pass on the corner where I went off in the first race. Dave followed me round, inches away at points for the rest of the race, and I finished 5th overall, 2nd in class

sounds like you had a fun day shame about the lil accident but hey atleast its not to much damage

Yeah, although I couldnt see it when driving - he was waving 2 fingers, his fist, and swearing his head off

I did go up to him and appologise after the race and he was fine. He did enter the corner very late and slow though, so slow that when I was slowing down to try and aviod him, the M3 behind me had to take such evasive action, the car behind him gave him a nudge - it was just soooo slooowwwwwww though the corners. The 3 fast corners leading up to the contact - I could take them flat in 5th, I was having to slow down and go to 4th - he was tip-toeing that slowely!!!

Nice one mate, considering your off and the nudge, to finish 7th and 5th is fantastic..

I love the starts to the races, 30 sec, 15 sec, 5 sec boards...ya can see your immense starts as well...

lmfaoooooooo @ where u go off into the corn field... i'd love to have known wot was going through ur mind at that point as u searched for a route out...!!!!
