Ok so there was quite a bit of discussion today about our loved and trusted web site.

Well understand the reason for the name change, BUT, we still promote CruiseWirral. Whic everyone agrees is no longer a site as it's titled AutoWirral now.

I therefore put the poll to the people for the name of our car/crusie site.

Cruising is coming back, it died for a few years but it is returning.

Name
single choice
AutoWirral (42%, 5 Votes)
CrusieWirral (58%, 7 Votes)
Total Votes: 12
Voting on this poll ends: 20th May 2008 10:00pm

Gotta stay as AutoWirral imho; although Cruisewirral will never die and will always be a pull. It just sit's nicely under AutoWirral.

AutoWirral can cater for all car enthusiasts in general whereas Cruisewirral can only really appear to cruisers.

Matty the problem we have is the banners, stickers and clothing is all branded crusiewirral.

As mark offered to hand the name and server over at cost if he was willing to PM the running costs to me i'd gladly do some workings out and see what we could come up with.

i'm not saying it is a bad idea, it was cw when i joined and always will be to me at the meets, like you say all the banners etc are cw, so makes sense to still use that at meets/shows etc....

Matty hit the nail on the head, I agree, it does get confusing having 2 different names for the same forum, however, in order to gain more members, Autowirral needs to exist as there is only so far you can go with Cruising as you are targeting a specific audience.

For cruises and events such as the modified nationals, I will use the Cruisewirral name as it works best in these areas, but it should remain part of Autowirral as Autowirral is the generic site and applies to a lot more people.

If you go to Cruisewirral.com and click the forums link, you will see that Autowirral and Cruisewirral share the same members and forums.

I just don't get the moving with the times and re-branding something, maybe i'm just old fashioned.

If it aint broke don't fix it.

But hey, leave the poll to run and see what people say anyway.

you could have made the poll start from now and view results when you have voted rather then being a lapsed time one starting tomorrow smack

You said it right there; Cruisewirral was broke, and needed fixing, it was dying and fast, and thats why Wikiwirral was born out of it. Wikiwirral incorporated AutoWirral as the car section of the forums from the start, it just took a bit longer for Mark to bring the brand into play because he wanted to make sure he got the changeover right by doing it gradually, and also that he could keep Cruisewirral very much alive and well, albeit as a part of AutoWirral.

Believe me, Mark did everything he could to keep Cruisewirral as the flagship brand, waited it out for over a year to see if it could improve before he bought the whole planned concept of Wikiwirral/Autowirral into play but Cruisewirral was unfortunatly, dying.

AutoWirral and Cruisewirral as part of it isnt broke imho, so there is no need to fix it.

Just my opinion of course. smile

I guess you miss understood.
I wouldn't let cruisewirral go the domain or the server?
I think what i was trying to say was if it was your domain
and your server then you can decide what and where, but i
cant remember the question lol.

Ive done what ive done to keep the members and there topics
and post alive, not deleted. It was essential to do something.

Cali there is almost 5 years of work gone into cruisewirral
i cant see me handning that over?

Branding
Either will do, its all about cars.
You will find that cruising is alive for about 4 months
and then will go quiet again, so if you like we are covering
all options instead of closing them down.

If your a younger member you probably reffer to us as cruiswirral.com,
where as i being older i reffer to the site as autowirral
probably because i drive a fiesta and not a EVO lol.

If you wish to get more involved cali drop me a pm wink

Mark.

cruise wirral, always has been and always should be, i hate it when things change their name's for no reason, such as coco pops becoming chocco crispies and such like.

I refer to the whole site and all the forums as Wikiwirral. whether it be cars, photography, history or UE etc.

in my instance I lost interest in cruising but not modified cars, and I went away from the forum for a bit, then discovered that CW had evolved in WIKIWIRRAl, a multi-forum, multi-topic, multi-interest community and came back (To Marks Surprise) since then I have got a bit of an interest back in cruising, So imho the rebrand jumble around to WIKIWIRRAL\Autowirral has gave cruisewirral another lease of life.

well not sure the forums make all that much diffence, as now it is quite clear for new members that the cruise wirral forums are linked to wiki wirral.
But i do think that this is confusing when it comes to the shows.
for example today some of our cars had cruise wirral stickers and others had autowirral? looks like we are not together. This makes no sence to me.

People who go to cruising events should really have Cruisewirral.com stickers rather then AutoWirral stickers imho.

Maybe Mark, you could design a new type of sticker, with a big Cruisewirral logo and underneath it in a smaller font, something along the lines of "part of Autowirral.co.uk".

Or maybe people could just use Cruisewirral.com haha!

cruisewirral.com was a site that thrived in the glory days of cruising. cruising has died now, ppl are more focused on porformance and track dayrather than show and shine. cruisewirral was great while it was around but its died now. and only a revival of the true old skool members with the cars to back it up will ever bring the name back properly.

Any advertising is a good thing wink
Its not unusual to see cars with other site names on them,
the point being that it brings someone with an interest in cars
to the same like mined people and forums.

Its too fiddly to go any smaller with stickers wink Matty

Well, I prefer AutoWirral.

Autowirral sound more enthusiast, cruisewirral sounds more neon light.

As soon as you see a "Cruise<generic place name>" you just think "Barry"

While the Cruisewirral name started it all, I think the AutoWirral change reflects changes in opionions, and as Matty said, covers all bases - those wanting to cruise, and the more enthusiast inspired.

I can see both sides of the arguement here......

CruiseWirral - Thatll keep bringing new Younger members onto the scene for a long long time....Hell it brought me in.

AutoWirral - Brings in a more varied interest of people...older usually...with a more general interest in cars.

Why Not have both??

Even with CruiseWirral as the name....someone mentioned it before, but both StuyMac and I are taking part in the Motorsport side of things..others are doing the Modifying cars side of things..and others are here just to be part of the community.

Is there really any need to brand everyone under the same Name??

on the whole, why not just re-invent the name total, ie, not use the name auto or wirral or cruise.

Might be worth starting a new topic :- new names for cruise/auto/wiki wirral !

Nout wrong with that; British Leylands finest grin

Mind you, if it was a choice between that and loads of chavs in knocked off Burberry, who drink pints of Stella, and have Corsa's and Saxo's all over the place...

You know which would be the better option tease

I have an AutoWirral sticker on the race car, much as I dont mind promoting the site, I know if I had CruiseWirral on it, I think it would be frowned upon....

TBH Cruisewirral has more of a ring to it, and its better known. Its also known as a lighter side of cruising in comparison to MNR and the old BHC.

Maybe Im just stereotyping the "Cruise" part of the name too much think

i aggree with your comment befor "curise" does conjour thoughts of barry.
but cruisewirral has been there from the start, and ive been there from the start (well the start of the forums any way) its the place where ive meet many friends. tbh the forums are still the same as they always have been in the auto wirral part n e way. as ive already said i personaly think that the cruise sceen is dying, just think of all the events the us old skool lot attened there was a decent event nearly every 2 weeks somewhere in the northwest. it just isnt like that any more, the ppl who used fuel the cruise sceen have gone and there hasn't really been the ppl to replace them. personally i think ive grown(no comments on my size for those who know me!!) out of the cruise sceen. im still into modified cars, just a diffrent kind of modding than i used to be, a more subtle kind of modding and not as "in your face" style. tbh i would hate to c the cruisewirral name vanish as it mean alot to me, its a reminder of all the things that where good about the old cruise sceen and the laf ive had along the way.

my personal thought are that maybe a sub forum of auto wirral sould be created specificaly for the meets/events/shows, just a thought

cruisewirral.co.uk
cruisewirral.com
wirralcruise.co.uk
wirralcruise.com
auto-wirral.co.uk
autowirral.co.uk
maxmodified.co.uk
modifiedstreetcar.co.uk
wirralcarshare.co.uk
wirralcarshow.co.uk

These are the domains that will bring you to our forums.
There were other names i had in mind but they were taken.

Road Map
Cruisewirral.com was the main branding for the car forums.
How ever as you can see from the list above there are other
ways to get to our forums. What i am trying to do its appeal
to many types of car enthusiasts to come to our forums.

Autowirral came about as Cuisewirral as a forum went very quiet 2 years ago, and something needed to be done to keep
the Car side alive by getting more general car enthusiasts involved. It wasn't an over night thing, there was a lot of
head scratching etc... and i had to give the forums direction
and it was the Christmas of 2006 Autowirral began to filter
into our forums and every six months a little more.
Its only now when there are cruises happening people are questioning the forum name name? There is no need to as im
explaining as i have a road map to stablise the car forums
for all types of car enthusiast with a generic name.

With all the web sites listed above "When" i get the time
i will create individual websites to draw members in.
Already behind the scenes there has been a lot of work
that you can not see just yet.

So for the future, we will have Autowirral heading the Forums as its the most "General" Heading.
And the likes of Cruisewirral will have its own webpages as a draw. I will add that there is
nothing wrong with using the cruisewirral name for "Cruises" or
meets, the bottom line is that members are all welcome from
which ever site they come from. There "IS" something for everyone
who has an interest in cars.

I hope that helps you understand the WHY?
I can also add that cruisewirral as a domain wont be lost
as lots of the original members will agree its kinda where
it all started, but look how we have all grown and got bigger wink
