Birkenhead Toy & Hobby (where was this?) - B&M know occupys it.. B&M used to be What everone wants? Worrals the stationers - is know Game Stolen from ivor - is the Dr Herbal Medicines near argos(its closed down know though) Asda is where Wilkinsons is right know...  WhSmiths is in the old Littlewoods building but its been converted into other shops.. Radio Rentals (if anybody remember this) Gamestation know occupys it.. The building used for Christmas grotto most years intown used to be the Old Mark One clothes shop Tandy is know a Charity Shop Contraband (which was the basement shop near Bon Marche) is know the mens section of Shoemarket..

I'd like someone to check for me, please, whether Bernards the tool shop is still in Oxton Rd. It was a couple of years ago. About 100 yards up from Charing Cross, on the right. If it is, it must be one of the few shops remaining from my childhood. I remember my Dad sending me there for screws, etc. Just opposite Bernards was a good bookshop called Mortons. A bit further up Oxton Rd. on the corner of Windsor St. on the opposite corner to the Windsor Castle Pub was a butchers called Hoyle's. He must have been Catholic, because I remember seeing nuns going in & he would put meat in their bag. No money changed hands.
