I have in my possession a photograph that I'm trying to date - it shows houses on the Marfords Estate in Bromborough being built (Marfords Av and Cunningham Dr). Does anyone have a definitive date as to when that was please? - it would be a big help. Thanks.

Can't give an exact date, none of the above addresses appear in the 1938 directory, surrounding roads do, Marfords Farm, Dibbinsdale, Marfords Cottages, Allport Lane.

The photograph is an aerial and doesn't show Greenacre Drive - it looks like that was added into the grounds of Dibbinsdale Hotel a few years after the main development. Narrows things down a bit though - so thanks again.

Once again, thanks Bert - 1957 is quite a definitive answer isn't it? With the proof too - just what I was hoping for, even if it's a few years earlier than I thought, as Mendell School is shown on other pictures in the series I have, and I had that down as being built 1959.

There's a couple of snippets in the 1961 Liverpool Echo, parents complaining about Mendell School not being completed, having only 2 classrooms in use, children having to travel to Heygarth Rd school. Parents threatening to keep children off school until the Ministry do something about it.

It's interesting - but I can't make the definitive date that draws all the photos together - we've got the Marfords house building at 1957, and Mendell School at 1960-61, and I can't imagine that the photographer made more than one flight over the same area (he was based in a shop in New Ferry), so I would have thought they were all taken on the same date.
Mendell 'looks' complete:
