Successful this time, all eyes were on them after the huge mistakes made on the last launch.

My eyes weren't I'm afraid. There is far too much junk being chucked into orbit around the planet these days. Were these satellites REALLY necessary I wonder?

I can't see any reason why not, its not linked to the EU, we give almost double the average contribution, there are other non-EU members and it collaborates with NASA, Russia, China etc.

Interesting times ahead with the possible commercialisation of the ISS, Mars and possible re-visits to the moon.

I doubt if the UK government will contribute much if anything when the UK space industry has decamped to the EU, which it seems likely to do.

By soon, there'll be so much orbiting crap that it will be impossible to go anywhere safely anyway, so I don't suppose it matters much!

I can't see our numerous Universities that are involved in the space industry shrinking. Surrey has been building satellites for nearly 40 years.

The countries most involved in space technology in order are America, China, Russia, Japan, UK, India, Canada, Germany, France, Luxembourg.

Sadly, I can. And more importantly, they can too!

https://www.theguardian.com/educati...rain-russell-group-universities-research
https://phys.org/news/2018-01-europe-space-agency-braces-brexit.html
....

And there's plenty more.

Brexit is a broad-spectrum cock-up. There seem to be few areas which it has not made worse.

What a fantastic bargaining chip, and there"s plenty more. Some see problems and some see windows of opportunity.
Twenty eight nations which includes UK collectively put in more than the other two WOW!.
Brexit is a broad spectrum opportunity to save Europe from a dark future. We tried from within and now we will do it from a position of our choosing. Get over it, I voted remain!!.

Yes, it looks like it! You don't seriously imagine the UK is going to put big money into the EU when we've left do you? They won't be able to afford it!

As to the EU's 'dark future' it will soon be expanding from the 27 to the 32, with the UK whinging on the sidelines and the hapless UK government blaming the EU for our decline.

By all means post as many links as you can find to demonstrate that the UK's leaving the EU is going to be good for British science - when you can find any!

In the meantime here are a few more realistic links:

https://www.theregister.co.uk/2018/01/11/brexit_science_tech_jobs/
https://www.theguardian.com/educati...on-for-scientific-research-watchdog-says
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-39900509
https://www.birmingham.ac.uk/research/perspective/science-and-brexit.aspx
https://www.theatlantic.com/science/archive/2016/06/is-brexit-bad-for-science/488624/
...

The list goes on.I could easily add dozens more.

I don't know why you leave enthusiasts don't just admit you got it wrong. I promise to do my best not to think you were stupid. Honest!

We had co-operation with universities around the world before we joined the EU, we had co-operation with universities round the world not in the EU while we were in the EU. Why would EU universities be any different from other countries post-brexit?

Our universities are full of students and staff that come from countries not in the EU why would EU students and staff be different from the post-brexit?

Unless the EU purposely blocks university co-operation the the situation will carry on as normal.

When EU27 goes to EU32, what will happen to Poland as it loses its enormous EU funding?

Most of the above links mentioned horrendous gaffs eg Clatterbridge CC in Lancashire in 1989, Proton therapy in Lancashire 1989 or ESA needing a specific deal with UK post-brexit yet being autonomous from EU??? Which shows how authoritative they are.
