Well at last i can put some pics up of my new car.

Its going to take me about 18months to 2years to get this how i want it but before that its going on a couple of trackdays so i can see how it handles.

Its a XR4i 2.8ltr 150bhp (when new). Its a car i have wanted since i was a child. Its not to everybodys taste but i love them and the RS500 but as i couldnt afford a 500 the 4i will do.

At the moment its standard but when its finished i hope to have a scorpio cosworth engine in it (want to try and stay away from the turbo mod).

Not sure on the colour might be blue with 17" white 5 spoke alloys and a side exit zorst but i will see as project 4i moves

Its does have someproblems like the bottom ends rattling at 4grand so need to replace the bigends before the trackday and the breaks a worse then the bm but it will all come together and unlike the bm i will be keeping this and having no moments of madnass and swapping for a boring car.

Have a look outside the tattoo place in New Ferry down the road from Motorvation, the blokes got an XR4i kitted like an RS500.
Looks nice, they're becoming classics as well.

loving the cult classic style. just something about the 3 door sierras that makes you think "thats gonna be fast".

Good choice.

Just ordered my bigend shells (cos its knockin) water pump oil pump and belts ready for the trackday and i might have a scorpio verysoon so the cosworth engine should be in sooner then i thought.

Oh and might be buying some sap cos alloys for the trackday as i plan on using all 8 tyres.

I am trying to buy a 3 door cossy kit for it.

After xmas will be replacing all the bushes and fitting a back axle off a xr4x4 so i get a lsd and rear disks.

Also going to have it mesured up for a 6point rollcage but i am not to fussed on having to cut the dash.

Apart from the fact the engine doesnt work because the bigend shells need doing its got NO steering wheel on it a shed load of bits in the back inclooding a bonnet and loads of crap on the front seats what idiot tries to rob a car in this kind of condition.

Nevermind should be up and running soon once i get the quad out of my garage so i can put this back in.

Been thinking alittle think

I like trackdays and like my 4i and have been looking for a rwd car to trackday.

I went and looked the 4i over good n proper today and found its prob going to cost close to £5000 to get it how a want it (spray job seats bodykit engine). I want a 24v cossie engine in my 4i which will cost £1500 before i do all the work.

So i have come up with this idea need to know what you peps think??

TRAKDAY REPLICA CAR LIKE THIS OLD 4I BTCC THAT ROUSE WON THE TITLE WITH.

[Linked Image]

I have a traiders insurance policy ready to be setup in june so getting the car road legal wont be a problem that way i can use the 4i as a toy aswell.

Wouldnt cost the earth and i could go out and buy another 4i later in nextyear for £1800 with the cos engine in it.

What do you think.

Cool car man! i just got an xr4x4 on a k plate, had the choice of that or a 4i, chose the 4x4 coz it was 100 quid cheaper.
i can tell you where the 4i is if your interested?
its got a scorpio engine in it with cossie running gear, bodykit, bonnet and had a bare metal respray 5 years ago. needs the exhaust fixing and welding in the usual places though frown

I want to run it as a trackday toy and a road car so its going to be road legal (tax and mot) its also going to be my 2nd car so to speak.

I want to run in the 2007 sprints and maybe some other events can anybody tell me what i need and what is needed for the car for newbrighton.

Its going in the garage 2mora and getting stripped ready to try and get it out for a trackday or 2 after june.

Between £100 and £140

100 being just a tank and the 140 being baffled (think thats how you spell it)

He will do it so it takes the space of the spear wheel well and it will be big enough for me to use as a road car to.

They are cheaper on e-bay but i can get this one made to fit my car and if i have any problems Paul should be able to help.

This is what the tank will look like once in.(picture sent by P.O.R)

There would be enough space for a spear wheel.

Used to be into these a while ago. I think I have a spintex supercharger somewhere in my dad's garage. Dead easy to fit, silly power. Will only fit 24V V6 though. (Differnet pullies on the 2.8). Will c if I can find it!!!

been working on the motor all day and finaly got the bottom end off so i can go about sorting the big ends.

[Linked Image]

JUST TO THINK A LITTLE THING LIKE THIS BUGGERED THE ENGINE.
The marks on the shells are why it was rattling.

[Linked Image]

BOTTOM OF THE ENGINE.

Shells sit inside the cups(things you can see with bolts on) one of these are a little to tight which is stopping the engine fro turning over so should be done by weds.

Things are starting to move forward at last might even have a lsd and other bits in the next couple of weeks if i can sort some things out.

The weather was nice to me today so thought i would go and make a start on swapping the axle's over on the 4i.

Well after looking at the state the rear brakes are in think i will stick to my drums for now and just take the lsd off as they are well buggered.

To be honest, the brakes are probably fine. How long have they been standing? Flush them through with brake fluid and just replace the discs and pads.
If not, buy a new seal/piston kit from a motor factors. wink

Tony I have about 4 Sierra Steel wheels in my shed, think all the tyres are legal too.

If you want them, come and collect them and get them outta the way laugh

As for the ignition shut off, all you need is a sticker above the ignition key with an arrow showing "ON" and "OFF" positions wink

Looking at doing Aintree myself, but need to get the car sussed out and run round for a bit first - if the car is road legal, and you put it in the modified road car class, we would be in the same class laugh

Right got my 3 door cossie grille and should have a new bonnet for the car by tommorow.

Will be finishing off the shells tommorow so i hope fingers and toes crossed that its running this time.

Still need to sort out the brakes as they are well soft anybody know a good company that can find the problem for me???

Want to take it the rolling road to see what power its running as i think its down on power (didnt feel that quick when i brought it up from London)

Will need to sort out the down pipe before i take it but it will give me a good figure of what the power is before i go putting silly engines in it (if i ever get a good 24v cossie engine)

But for now i am trying to get it running proper.

Having problems trying to do the shells though (cos i am thick) so Jay is coming down later to see what i am doing wrong and point me in the right direction so hopfully fingers crossed it could be running this sat.

Worked on my toy again to day and had a mixed day really.

Got the crank to turn so set about checking the shells to make sure they had no marks on them and stuff and guess what THEY HAVE mad

[Linked Image]

THIS IS A NEW SHELL SHOULDNT HAVE ANY MARKING'S ON IT AS THE ENGINE HASNT EVEN RUN WITH THEM IN THE DAMAGE HAS HAPPENED WHILE THE CRANK HAS BEEN TURNED WITH A SOCKET.

1st one i took out had bits on it looked like small bits of metal and the top of the shell has a groove in it that is deep enough to put your nail in.

So i have desided to get another 2.8 engine for now as i want the car up and running (the 24v engine will be done late nextyear as planed).

But before i could go asking a mate has got me one of sombody he knows fully rebuilt and ready to go in so i WILL have the 4i up and running by the time the rolling road comes about.

Engine brakes suspension lsd seats bodykit saphs are none turbo cossie as you know are.

Bonnets are different on 4x4 saphs also rouse sports have a different bodykit.

Plus saphs only come in a couple of colours.

Other things that a proper ford person will know that i dont.

also on rouse 302 i think is a rwd while the rouse 304 is 4wd, the seats in a rouse are different aswell.

scoop i'd say get on passion ford as these lot will know loads more.

on the rs500 the rear spoiler has a lower one while the cosworth has not, also the rs500 has an 8injector rail with 4 injectors wired up, and grills in front bumper instead of foglights

I may be losing the plot here, but all Sierra Cosworths are Turbo'd.

Saffies have 4 doors (Saloon) and the 3dr Cosworth has 2 doors and a hatch (Like the 4i, but the 3dr cossie has a single rear 1/4 window)

4WD Saffies have a vented bonnet and a slightly bigger T3 than a 2wd Saffie

The 3dr's have variations between RS500 and normal 3dr cars - mainly mentioned above. The RS500 was the homologation edition for rallying and the RS500s didnt come with leather interior or sunroofs.

For a bonus point, does anyone know why the 4x4 saffie had a vented bonnet and a bigger T3?

am pretty sure it was because the 4wd was the last of the line so ford decided to update the look of the car.

Well, I guess it did that as well wink

The early 2wd cars suffered from head gasket and overheating probelms and Ford got quite a few back under warrenty.

The vents where to help reduce under bonnet temps, and the bigger turbo was used to make more power at less boost and help keep engine temps lower than they where when running more boost and less power with the smaller T3s wink

Now you have the 180 i would sell it mate. Its metal therefore loose any sentimental feelings you have for it and sell sell sell.

You could sell the 180 and buy a XR4i already on the road if you really wanted one that badly.

Your call bud but i just see the XR4i going nowhere fast think
