Ah, thanks so much for the right link and the warning. Seems to have done the trick . I had thought I already had Adobe - I certainly did at one stage , but when I checked, all I had now was Adobe reader. So another problem solved , Im grateful DD. Was looking for a wiki smiley that offers you a thankyou beer, but sorry , you'll have to make do with popcorn popcorn grin

Now the bad news. Mozilla and Adobe are doing a blame game on each other as to which one has a problem with the other, youtube sometimes freezes firefox as do occasionally other sites that use flash.

There are some advanced settings in firefox and flash you can do to alleviate the problem but it can make the videos a bit choppy.

Mm. Ill hold onto that link DD, thanks. Ill keep my fingers crossed - all is working well right now . I dont open that many videos, so if correction = choppy, I might just alternate between Chrome and FF , taking what each offers for opening them. No effort really .

*BIG SIGH* Arrgghhh! Changed from Chrome last week which doesnt support Silverlight to Firefox with which OH watches BT Sport live' Worked a treat last week. Will it work today? Not a chance! The video screen just says as it did with Chrome , activate Silverlight. Ive checked its enabled, Ive checked its the latest version . All ok . Ive tried all the simple fixes I understand , stated on helplines Cleared my cache, history . Unclicked the 'use hardware acceleration when available box' . No avail.

Im about to try uninstalling Silverlight .Clicked on uninstall. The next box says 'Do you want to allow Silverlight -base-msi to update the software on this computer ?'

I dont know! Does update the software mean uninstall it - or that its decided it will try and fix me up with something else that I may not want? Its actually highlighting the 'yes' box, but .....

Ive never uninstalled anything before - is it likely to ask me anything tricky that I really should be careful NOT to click please?

An msi file is the install file which is also sometimes used to uninstall.

Your problem may be that silverlight is turned off in firefox.

Have a look at Tools (on top tabs) - add-ons (on tools drop down menu) - plugins (on side tabs). You should have a silverlight plugin (version around 5.1.???????), ensure the box on the far right of this says "always activate", if not then change it to that.

Hi DD Thanks. Yeah, I already checked it was on always activate ,but no joy. Sounds from what you said ,that Im ok to click to allow the update of the software as part of the uninstall , so Ill see how much further I get with that .

Yep, should be straight forward - good luck.

Can't think why Silverlight would stop working, its not had an update since July 2014 and while it used to have the odd glitch I've never known it die altogether.

Morning DD Well, I uninstalled , switched off , reinstalled, switched off , switched on again, checked all the same things again and its still just showing a grey screen with 'activate this plug in'. I click it and do the allowing to 'always allow', but nothing changes . is there another browser I could try maybe? Its very odd that it worked perfectly after first installing FF , and then a week later after not using BT sport , it suddenly goes back to what it was like with Chrome.

I keep seeing 'run as administrator ' every now and again whilst Ive been trying to sort this. I dont know whether I am doing or not , would it make a difference ?

If you are running windows 8.1 BT Sport will throw up the 6030 VC019 errors when you try to watch the programme. This is because it is not compatible with the latest Silverlight version 5.1.30514.0. What I have found is that if you delete the Silverlight
programme through Control Panel and then install the older version 5.0.61118.0 then it will work. That's the good news. The bad news is if your windows is set to automatically update it will re-install the new version to take you back to square one.

You would have thought that BT would have ironed this out a long time ago rather than let their customers spend hours going through the Help page that does not give you the help anyway.

Venice : Just use Firefox for your sport viewing if that's all that's missing.

Think of your browsers with there strengths and weaknesses.

BT Should really be pushing this out in HTML5 by now.

In Chrome 42, if you need to use NPAPI plugins you can set (Remove the space after the word chrome) chrome ://flags/#enable-npapi to Enable. However this flag will be removed in the near future.

Silver light is already installed, it just needs npapi to talk to silverlight.

Amazon users have had a similar experience also with Amazon prime and also netflix users.
They have until September to get there sites updated when chrome will turn them off.

* It may be a temp inconvenience but there are security issues with all plugins.
There is plenty of time for the developers to update before September.

Think Im getting confused sorry Mark . When I said I was on Windows 7 , I thought that was different from a browser blush I thought it was something to do with the way the whole hardware of the computor was set up (yes I know Im a lost cause with techie stuff crazy ) - I actually have left Chrome and now use Firefox as my browser ,and its FF that I cant get BT sport to run Silverlight on any more . Not worry though Ive just realized OH can watch the highlights of the car racing tomorrow on tele, so thanks everyone.

Windows 7 is like your TV. (The physical Tv)
Your channel on your TV are like different browsers Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer ( ch 1,2,3,4).
They all allow you to watch programs, however each one does it in a slightly different way. Each one thinks it can do the job better, but it's just about which channel or browser you prefer to watch / use.

So chrome has decided not to show silverlight stuff is just like Mary white house to your 9pm water she'd.

Change channels or in your case change browsers.

Hope that helps.

Thanks Mark, that does help to explain how it all works , but my problem seemed to be that Firefox says it supports Silverlight yet I couldnt get it to .

I hadnt thought of going back to Explorer to see if that supported it for me -- but have now, and it does! There again so did FF last week, so I dont know whether Explorer will still be supporting it when OH wants to watch the next MotoGP . Seems you cant trust any of the browsers to give you consistency.

While you are installing silverlight if it asks for "run as administrator" then you need to answer yes as it needs to make system changes.

You might want to try the following microsoft link which is the official silverlight diagnostic and fixit tool - again if it ask to "run as administrator" or similar authorisation say yes/ok CLICKY (I hope link works, if not find the fixit icon on the following page FIND-IN-HERE CLICKY)

Mark is 100% that BT should use html5 by now and dumped silverlight, they are only delaying the inevitable.
