Bad news, put my car in for a service and MOT at Fords and they rang me before doing any work after a quick health check with the following MOT failures and advisories. I have included the price they quoted and was wondering if anyone thought if it was worth doing else where and how much I would be looking at paying. I am coming to the conclusion that i might be better scrapping/trading.

Make: Ford
Model: Focus
Variant: 1.6 TDCI 90BHP Non DPF Estate
Year: 2006/2007 56
Mileage: 115,000

1. Bonnet Latch and bowden cable - £245.96 MOT failure
2. White smoke from engine, requires further investigation £94
3. nsf headlight bult and both front indicators white - £62.34 MOT Failure
4. rear wiper bent - £16.54
5 - rear number plate weathered - £31.07
6- oil leaks requires further investigation - £46.800
7- injector conpression seal leaking, price with leakoff pipes and clips £287 ,PT Failure
8 - turbo pipe leaking and induction pipe split - £288 MOT Failure
9 - Front exhaust flexy leaking and rear exhaust box corroded - £338 MOT Failure
10 - N/S/F shock absorber leaking £238 MOT Failure
11- Both rear trailing arm bushes starting to split - £411

Would be interested to see what people in the know think of the prices quoted, how much cheaper it might be independantly and if it is worth doing. They have offered me £2k trade in on a fiesta zetec s at £10k

The prices are rather high. For just the MOT fails (1,3,7,8,9 and 10) to be nearly £1000 is a fair wack. Without checking prices I could probably sort them all for £400-£500. The rear wiper and reg plate would cost maybe £20. It all depend on if you want a new car really.

I have the car back, they have not carried out any work.

I would be interested in getting a better idea of prices as i really like the car, i guess I am just reluctant in paying alot of money to get it passed its mot this year, then next year have the advisories need doing for a similar price.

If anyone is interested in doing the work, if you could give me a quote to get it passed its MOT and then also give me a price to fix the advisories, obviously I am aware that investigation into oil leaks and white smoke may uncover bigger issues. Also, all 4 tyres are approaching the legal limit. they are 215,55,16

thanks

I should mention that the bonnet does not currently open so would need breaking into before it is all replaced/repaired

my reg plate failed so ordered one off ebay. cost under £10 inc post and packing, white indicators can be sorted by buying orange covered indicator bulbs or getting orange sticky stuff to put over the lens, wiper arm --just bend it back!

I would say get the investigation work carried out first, the rest you know the cost for. The findings may only be a few quid to fix, or it may be big bucks, not worth deciding on if it is worth doing until you get a full total of works required for MOT minimum.

May be worth getting a Ford specialist (not necessarily a main dealer) mechanic to give the whole car a look at and go on their advice as to whether it is worth proceeding.

After all, MOT checks are only what is required to keep it roadworthy and other legal requirements (emissions, etc), no guarantees there are not bigger gremlins lurking that are nothing to do with road safety that just haven't been found yet.

Just my two cents anyway.
