This may sound like a really numpty question but how to I close an email account? I've moved from Sky to Plusnet and changed my email address from Sky/Yahoo to G.mail. Although I've told all my contacts about the new email address there is one who keeps sending stuff to the old account which I've been checking every now and again. How do I close the Sky email account, I've looked on their help pages and nothing is mentioned. I think my friend will get the hint when the emails don't get through anymore and he will have to use the new one.

That sounds about right  It used to be 3 months many years ago.

emails almost always have an automated reply setting so that you could reply to every email sent to the old address to the effect that the account is now closed and show your new address. After 6 months or so there will not be any mail other than spam.
I guess at that point you could just ignore it.
