I understand it's not your fault that your dog doesn't like others and you have tried to train it out of him/her. But until you are successful then a muzzle would help matters and stop some of your worry when other dogs approach.

Sorry but I disagree with this, his dog is on a lead and therefore he is in control of his dog, you can't always train a dog out of being reactive like that, especially when on the lead. If somebody else can't trust their dog not to run up to other dogs when offlead then they shouldn't be offlead around other dogs, simple as. I have two dogs and one of them I know will run up to other dogs if they are close enough when he's offlead, I don't know if that dog is friendly or reactive or even scared of other dogs so back on the lead he goes. On the flip side I also know that he can be reactive when he's on his lead sometimes so it can be extremely annoying when some unthinking dog owner lets their dog come bounding over to mine whilst they just stand there watching, lamely shouting the dogs name which it invariably wont respond to, instead of coming and retrieving their dog!

All dogs should be on a lead when out, saves the bickering. Anything off a lead is a stray and should be in the dog pound, which is where chip and pin would come in handy. Penalties should be used to discourage feckless owners, which would pay for wardens.

Sorry to hear about the dog being attacked, my young puppy was attacked in B'Head park and it changed him from then on. Just hope the injured dog has a fast and full recovery.

My parents always taught me a golden rule when walking the dogs that i have taught my misses since adopting the puppy:

If there dog is on his/hers lead then ours should be.

i take my dog to storton woods ,she is never on the lead as she needs a bit of freedom to run around . the good point of storton is everybody gets to know each other and there dogs so dont worry about letting them off there leads .its only when you come across dicks who have no control over there dogs that you have trouble

I'm an animal lover but I think the answer to this is to have ALL dogs muzzled whether on or off the lead when they're out in public, including any place they can come into contact with the public i.e. front gardens/postmen etc. I know it's a tad drastic but then at least the worst that could happen is somebody getting knocked off their feet by a big dog or another animal/person being scratched and no severe injuries could be sustained by owners trying to intervene.

I think thats a bit over the top, maybe lessons for owners would be a better alternative. My dog (harley) likes nothing more than running though muddy puddles with his mouth wide open catching the water and bits of grass/plants smile

Yes I totally agree that it's over the top for responsible dog owners. BUT if it stops the k**bheads being able to use them as weapons and also stops other dogs and people from being injured then surely it's a small price to pay for the few hours they're being walked?

Hope the German Shepard has made a full recovery, i take my dog to Victoria Park, and lately there has been a white Boxer of its lead with 2 lads, that dog pounds across the park as soon at it sees another dog, the lads just laugh think its a huge joke, my dog is petrified of other dogs and that's because some idiot had their dog roaming without a lead it pounded on my dog and pined her down, my dog was screaming with fear and was on her lead, since then she is a bag of nerves when i take her out, i find the best place to allow her to run 'safely' is walker park in prenton, she and i feel safe there. I agree with Storeton woods it is a nice place to walk them however its me the owner who feels vulnerable walking there on my own. I love my dog so much and take her out everyday, clean up after, have her chipped etc etc, i think i am a responsible dog owner, however god forbid if and when anything happens to her i will not get another one because of all the D*** heads out there with their status dogs, who think its a big joke to watch an Innocent dog and owner be scared stiff or even worse attacked/killed by them. Oh and by the way i do believe you reap what you so, dogs arent born dangerous they are bred dangerous.

Hi pegsgirl, please don't let the horrible, small minority put you off getting another dog when you inevitably lose your little girl hopefully many years from now,you must know how much you both benefit from each others company.I assume that you are a lady and therefore would not like to carry a large piece of hickory to defend your dog and yourself (works for me),but what about a home made pepper spray? All you need is chilli powder, water and an aerosol spray,if this is sprayed into the aggressive dog (or idiots) face it should do the trick. By the way I agree with you about Walker park,I'm there twice a day with my girls.I wish you many happy and peaceful walks together.

Ah thank you Ludwigvan, kind comments, I don't think i would carry anything to defend myself, and yes i am a lady but hey i may consider the spray!! is it legal?? I just think that it spoils the pleasure of walking my dog when i am constantly looking over my shoulder to see if there are 'mad dogs or people' around. I love walker park my little dog and i have just come back, she can run and play with no fear for both of us. I love her company and take her on holiday with me, she is part of the family, just the sado's spoil your fun.

its not a dog only area though some people like me walk my littles ones through there and irrespective if you think your dog is nice, i dont know that and i really get pissed off with dogs that are not next to there owners coming up to my kids. if there with there owners fine, they can judge the behaviour and i can respond but those that are givern freedom is irresponsible
