Sad to hear that Birkenhead R.N.A. Club, Royal Navy Association, (next door to the Sea Cadet Unit on Park Road East) is going through a bit of trauma at the moment. Friends, if you are in the area and fancy nipping in for a pint and a chin wag then please do, you will be pleasantly surprised by the memorabilia available for perusal and the beer prices are right as well. You stand a good chance of becoming a regular. If you are ex R.N. then I especially implore you to get you backside in there and spend a couple of bob. It's a good club (they even let Stokers in) so you don't need to feel out of place. There are dart boards, pool tables , TV room and rooms available for hire. Let us not lose a good local facility. Cheers.

Yes it is a shame, out of all the members the R.N.A have, only a small amount call in reguarly, the rest come only for special occassions, nearly every person has been or has got some kind of connection with this place, my wife and i have been to weddings funerals, christings as well as hen nights and halloween partys , that was back in the day when the bar staff held regular fancy dress partys which always had a good turn out, it doesn't take much to get a really good atmostphere going in there whether young or old, and the prices make it a good cheap night out in these hard times, so i will be taking a few friends in this week and next week, because once its gone you can never get it back .

Do you still have to be signed in by a R.N.A.member?

Bandys right, it would be a shame for that place to go. Many, many years ago i was in there with a couple of mates and always found it to have a good atmosphere and a pleasent crew.
One day we were in there and got talking to a couple of older gentlemen who had done their bit in WW2, one had been sunk twice and had been in the drink on both occasions for a few days, can't remember the name of the ships, while he is telling us his very interesting tale, his mate who had obviously heard it a hundred times before disappeared to the bar and came back with a pint of water and started flicking the water at us, special effects he said. So take your sowester with you when you go.

God help us,
Come yourself,
Don't send Jesus,
This is no place for children.

My favourite one was from Glasgow. This old salt had been sunk 3 times already and when he came home the 4th time and shouted to his missus that he was back she was very unconcerned. He asked her why she wasn't worried and she replied that she wasn't worried about him being sunk because she knew that shit always floated.
Not many WW2 blokes left now unfortunately, the ones who are left are still funny though and the atmosphere is still good, was in there yesterday.
