The Old House At Home is actualy in QUEEN STREET. OLD CHESTER ROAD RUNS DOWN PAST CHAMBERLINE STREET AND MEETS GREEN LANE DOWN BY THE RAILWAY BRIDGE.

Wow, never noticed that before. Old chester road actually starts/ends at the junction half way down green lane. Thanks for pointing that out thumbsup

I stand corrected

In 1861 Mawdsley p37 there is a Commercial Inn down as 1 Old Chester Road and 25 and 27 Grange Street which means at one time
Old Chester Road may have started near the beginning of Grange street unless no1. was the accommodation of the manager.

Where was Grange Street and where would no1 be if by Green Lane station
The Brittannia was 2/4 Old Chester Road.

There were a few little streets in the triangle of Queens Street/Green Lane/Old Chester Road, but that would be on the wrong side (as I've recently been educated). Tithe maps prior to this date and the 1875 maps don't show anything different but of course, the tithe maps don't name roads.

I'm guessing Grange St was the section that goes past the station and that Old Chester Road terminated a bit earlier. In which case the Commercial became the Prince Albert or was to the left of it (where the chip shop or car electrical place is?)

Yes, we overlapped, its difficult to get that map with there being so many changes, any idea what year it is?

I think you're mistaken dd
On berts map it looks like it started originally from Grange Street and ran parallel to Egerton st as far as Waterloo Place before it seems to disappear from any later maps
189 Commercial Hotel 23 grange street may be the pub in index

Would like to see more of the Egerton St map I think was posted by martyfred if he reads this

Take a look at the threads on Town Station. It was on the corner of Grange La and Tunnel Road. It's not shown on the above map, so it must have been before the railway tunnel to Woodside was dug.
The thread has maps of here and some reference to road names, which may be usefull. Also, see the thread on Old Chester.
Personally, I always thought that Old Chester Road only got the 'old' prefix after New Chester Road was opened, once the land had been drained. Logically, Chester Street should have run into Chester Road, thus completing the run from either Monks Ferry or Woodside to Chester?
Hope this helps as I'd like to know.

Step back to the pubs. One of the pubs with the name Comercial was on the corner of Grange Street and Tunnel Road. In the mid 50s is full name was the Commercial Hotel. It was a Birkenhead Brewery pub.

183 Commercial Hotel Grange Street /Tunnel Road

I wonder if the Peerless Brewery tour we are going to has any connection to the Peerless Ales on the pub
