Wow OK then. I'm looking from Chester Street I assume up Waterloo Place. Where is the railway bridge?

Bridge is there, but not very clear, if you look at the sign sticking out of the last building on the right of the street, the bridge is just under that.

DiggingDeeper thank you so much. I guess The Shakespeare was a lot closer to Cammell Lairds boundary than I first thought. Of course Chester St has changed a lot there but I went down Hind Street under the bridge. I thought the pub was there but it must have been further towards Lairds/Chester Street. Thanks again for all your help.

It was on the corner of Chester Street. Waterloo Place seems to have been straightened out at some point in time, it had a noticeable S bend at one time but later maps show a straight line.

Mersey Vaults: The shaded area between George Street and Somerville Street, including 44, 42, and 40 Somerville Street was a "bomb site" in the mid 1950s. I lived at the top of Cleveland Street and this was the "playground" for all the children in the area. I am not saying the buildings were flattened by bombing but it was always referred to as the bommy.
