The map features many changes compared to the modern map (see if you can spot them!!)
I paid AU$30 on ebay for it compared to a London Midland region timetable i have from 1966/67 for 99p!!!!!

This is a carriage map of the network from about 10 years later, after the opening of the loop and link (which resulted in the closing of Exchange Station) but before the opening of Conway Park Station.

So the station was called Bebington and New Ferry at one point?

Also Brom Rake and Eastham Rake are missing as they were not built yet.

Photo of an original BR station 'totem' from Bebington and New Ferry Station (late 50s to early 70s):

The picture that UptonCX posted also is missing hunts cross as the last station was originally garston which is now closed replaced by Liverpool South Parkway which was the last stop for Speke Airport... Then the extension for Manchester airport (Hunts Cross) was added... which isnt added on the map..

Hi Soundlad - What do you mean ...."extension for Manchester airport"

1. The Northern line south of Liverpool Central is not shown.
2. Upton-by-Chester station was replaced by Bache station 400mtrs to the south
3. Having to change at Birkenhead North. How bonkers is that.

A lot of the stations are very clumsily named (especially on the "City line").

Oh, the joys and fun of waiting at the windy, rainy exposed Rock Ferry station for the diesel railcar to (possibly) turn up.

Because Hunts Cross was closer to Manchester Airport than what South Parkway is to Speke Airport.

What i mean is Garston was the last stop on the line which is now the hunts cross line... The track was electrified to hunts cross at some point so you got a normal mersey electric to hunts cross and changed at hunts cross to get on the manchester airport train... Back then i think it was harder cause you had to go around the world to get to Manchester Airport so i think they added the Merseyrail to it so it saved alot of messing around.. So now with Garston now gone its been replaced with Liverpool Southparkway with Bus links obviously to Speke.. smile

even back then they had wallasey village and wallasey grove road stations, quite possibly the most pointless train journey on the network imo.

and also there's no conway park xD (it's the station i get off every single work day to get the bus to st caths so i instinctly look for it :P)

I'm not quite that old but do remember having to change at Hooton from the diesel to the electric train on the way back from a night on the ale in Chester (gave a chance for a quick "pit stop" as that journey was longer than my bladder!
