Does anyone have one? Either cruising or live on? I am thinking seriously about this. I know about - and belong - to the usual canal boat forums, just wondering about wirral people who have done this or are doing it. Ideally looking for a woman who has one! Ha Ha! I am thinking about buying the Dutch barge type as the narrow boat is too narrow and even the widebeam is a bit cramped.

Hi yes got one last year & still doing it up. Work is preventing me from getting up there to finish just now but trying to get it in the water for easter. Never had one before but its only 22' feet long & ideal for a 1st boat. Its what I would call a weekend boat as its small inside yet its easy to move around. I can turn this right round in the canal. Its cheap to maintain & birth too.
Will probably get this year out of it though then sell it & buy something about 32' feet to 40' feet next year.

Mine is moored at waverton & there are a few for sale up there if you wanted a bigger one. There is one there that I dont think has seen the water & its all fitted out. Last time I was there it was for sale for £30000. Think it was 50'feet long. Not been there since October though but you can just drive up there to have a look & talk to the people there. Really friendly & quite happy to give advice, just got to take it all in then sort out what works for you. Anyway happy hunting.

Tiger the dutch barges on the canal are the same width as widebeams
or else they can't fit into the locks
if you go for a wide beam don't forget you will be very limited to the amount of canals you can go on

Hello Tiger,
I have a 37ft Narrowboat moored outside Chester on a lovely private mooring. This was recently fitted out with a fixed 4ft memory foam bed.Usual refinements like Multi fuel stove,2 hob cooker & oven etc.etc.Canal boating is a lovely way of life and we spent 2 weeks last year on the Llangolen canal(fantastic)Sadly I have to sell the boat and I am prepared to let it go for a bargain price as speed is of the essence. If you would like to view the details it,s on narrowboatshop.co.uk
and the boat is named "ALYSSA"This has got photos attached so all info is there. If you,d like any more info contact me.
hope I can be of help

Oh great Derek at least i will have you to talk to,not everybody's cup of tea, narrowboating.
This country has some of the most beatifull canals to be seen.
There's over 2,200 miles of canals to explore and i love it with a passion
Maybe once i get to meet people,we could have day trip on my boat, its moored near llangollen and there is thomas telfords aquaduct near by i think its around 220ft in the air, amazing bit engineering, enough now its getting late
see you at the pub
