Does anyone have any information, photos etc about the Heswall Boys Camp? I stayed there (as a cub scout) in the early 70s and happened to be in the area last year and could find no trace of it. Google tells me it was demolished in the early '00s but that's all.

I may be wrong on this, if so then I'm sure that someone will put me straight.
I think that the story begins with the Akbar reformatory ship moored in the Mersey for Protestant boys (there was another reformatory ship, the Clarence, for Catholic boys). When the Akbar ship was no longer fit for purpose, a land base was built as a reformatory with a nautical regime. This was at Heswall and was called the Akbar. Its location was NGR SJ253825. Eventually the Akbar Reformatory closed. The site became the Richmond Boys Club with its own open-air swimming pool in 1953. It was renamed Heswall Boys Club in 1965. Girls were admitted as members from about 1972.

The site of Heswall boys Camp is now Regency Lodge - Mental Health Centre.
If you check it out on Google maps satelite images (search broad lane, heswall) you can still see the signs of the old camp but when you zoom into 'street view' Regency Lodge magically appears! oshocked
