I used to live on st pauls rd , no:13 next door to the barbers on the corner of alison st , i think it was called "jacksons", also remember mr lords the shop , i think it became a bisto for a short time and i used to go up there and sit and have a milk shake , also rostences was on the top corner opposite the fairfield , also the name "fogg's comes to mind , a shop next to the fairfield , .
I remember the old victorian twin lamp post in the middle of st pauls rd with its ornate scroll top with 2 lamps that always reminded me of 2 eyes peering down ,(scary when your young)

used to hide all the wood for bonnie night over the wall at the top of meadow lane , think it used to be called a bakery, i dont know if it was !!

welcome to wikiwirral

Only info I found in 1916 street directory is

eclipse vaults 40 meadow lane off st pauls road Rock Ferry
I think this pub and the Royal Standard are the only ones that have gone from that area.
Not been around that area but but suspect there are housing eatates there now.
Unfortunately the 1898 map I have only shows Planet and Lunar streets in the top corner and can't see St Pauls RD

Have a look in the pub index in the History section and press control + F type in Rock Ferry and that should take you to some pics of local pubs in that area

Have just sat and red all these to my dad. he remembers Jackson the barbers and Mr Lord. when i was saying about the shops he was saying the names before i could say them. He moved into the pub in 1960. he remembers the Fairs. there was a family lived near him calledthe roberts before the pub was altered.

brought back some lovely memories for him thankyou
