I used to live on st pauls rd , no:13 next door to the barbers on the corner of alison st , i think it was called "jacksons", also remember mr lords the shop , i think it became a bisto for a short time and i used to go up there and sit and have a milk shake , also rostences was on the top corner opposite the fairfield , also the name "fogg's comes to mind , a shop next to the fairfield , . I remember the old victorian twin lamp post in the middle of st pauls rd with its ornate scroll top with 2 lamps that always reminded me of 2 eyes peering down ,(scary when your young)
used to hide all the wood for bonnie night over the wall at the top of meadow lane , think it used to be called a bakery, i dont know if it was !!
Anyone remember the fair rides in oak tree place at the side of ma wrights ( the railway ). And little hidden houses at the other side of the pub . peel st as a kid it felt like it had the longest jigger in birkenhead ( along the side railway wall )
Hi my name is carole and i am doing some investigating for my dad he lived on meadow road in the 50s in a closed pub,not there now we came down last week,he is eighty one and he needed to come home and look around, Hope i can get info and pics for him he was a bit upset that nothing at all was the same.He also remembers dee st star st planet lunar and meteor thanks
eclipse vaults 40 meadow lane off st pauls road Rock Ferry I think this pub and the Royal Standard are the only ones that have gone from that area. Not been around that area but but suspect there are housing eatates there now. Unfortunately the 1898 map I have only shows Planet and Lunar streets in the top corner and can't see St Pauls RD
thanks for the info will ask my dad if he remembers the name he told me it was 40 meadow lane so it must be correct.would just like to say this site is fasanating thanks again carole
Have a look in the pub index in the History section and press control + F type in Rock Ferry and that should take you to some pics of local pubs in that area
