Actress Barbara Windsor, who plays Peggy Mitchell in EastEnders, is to leave the BBC One soap next year.
The 72-year-old has played the Albert Square matriarch since 1994.
The star, who won a lifetime achievement gong at this year's British Soap Awards, said she wanted to spend more time with her husband.
"I'll be so sad to leave Peggy behind. EastEnders has been wonderful to me and it's no secret that it changed my life all of those years ago," she said.
She added that Peggy has been a "wonderful character to play", and singled out showing the Queen around the set of EastEnders as "something that will stay with me forever".
"I'm looking forward to the future and I suppose when all's said and done, I should spend a bit more time with my old man, as he's not getting any younger." It shall be interesting to see how they develop the programme without her, as she is an integral part to the soap, and has been for many years. I wonder how Phug will coap without mummy and whether Grunt will return at some point before she goes. BBC News Report

Errr were was I moaning/worried about it. Dont take this to heart, but get a life yourself muppet instead of just spending all your time posting insults on internet forums like the internet warrior your obviously are, this is the TV forum and this is big news in the TV world.
In fact, before you get a life, maybe you need to get some brains... "On The Box" is TV forums, amazingly enough, we discuss television in here. Get on over to barryboys.co.uk if you want to spend your time trying to insult people.
And if you have never watched television, id be surprised. Or maybe your that thick, you can't got a job and can't afford one... or too pissed off ya Skol Supers to know what a TV is laaaaaa. You see, we can all throw needless and pointless insults about.

They're all bottom dwellers - that's why they use a launderette (going for mass assumptions today)

Well I watch it, and don't think its anything near true to life, Eastenders is probably the worst of the two soap opera's I watch for being utter bollox, at least Corrie you can relate with some characters and their attitudes, and incorporates more comedy, EE just seems to be doom and gloom all the time. But it is generally good entertainment, and they do deal with real-life issues, some of which are rather serious, and even real-life themselves (for instance, Jim Branning's stroke, is something that has happened to him in real-life - he isnt acting the part of a serious stroke victim, that is how he truely is). Does every programme and/or movie you watch, honestly have to be based around a true story? It's more in touch with reality than any of the US crap which is made totally unrealistic simply to "big up" the US. If it were an American production, they would all have million-pound mansions, with fully computerized homes, Bang and Olufsen everything and flashy Escalades and Ferrari's, not to mention nothing but attractive ex-model girls and guys cheating on one another every day. I think I prefer Eastenders, the little crappy ex-council houses, Peggy and the laundrette tbh. For someone who does not watch it... you do appear to know quite a bit about the characters washing habbits... you sure you don't have a sneek peak every now and again!

It is Darren lol. They dragged it out over 3 episodes though. Atm, Corrie is faring much better and far more entertaining, but it always does well even without a major story going on, I think because it's got a lot of light-hearted and small but believable storylines in and comedy elements. I think EE is going through a stale period as they have probably saved the big storylines for Christmas but the constant doom and gloom feeling makes you tired of it all too often.
Funny how Corrie does'nt seem to suffer half as many stale periods as EE and their storylines are timed perfectly... I havent even been bothered with EE over the past few months, I just been watching it when theres nothing else on the PVR catching my attention. They really do drag storylines out far too much, this Syed/Christian storyline is taking the mickey, and the Max/Stacey storyline dragging on for over a year almost completely killed my interest in it. It gets irritating rather than keeping you wanting to watch the next episode. Used to love it.

Used to like Brookside lol, till they changed it and went all funny with the camera angles. Think I just stopped watching soaps for a few years during that period though. I watched the final few epsiodes out of nostalgia, was a cracking ending storyline, it could have lasted far longer than it did - they were supposed to continue that storyline onto a DVD, and have some spin-off DVD's iirc, but it never materialised.
