There is some procedure for it, not sure how it works though. I do know of someone on another forum who successfully appealed against a decision so it deffo can happen.

However, a lot of people would'nt be arsed with the hassle; it probably takes weeks and loads of paperwork.

Just MOT'd the car again at Walsh's.
I replaced the rear calipers and it failed on handbrake efficiency, I welded the sill up and it failed on that, a brand new ball joint failed having 'excessive play' (it's new flipping ball joint?!) and there are other things introduced and things listed in previous advisory have not been listed. I hope I'm not being paranoid here, but it seems very strange.

we take all are vans there some days they pass and some days they,ll fail silly items

if they can fail you its an extra £££ (denno for retest to public, i used to get charged £20)
Oh! A BULB has blown on the reg plate FAIL! Extra doller for us Not " its ok mate, you run over road to senars for a bulb" nooooo they have to fail it

wouldnt ever use walsh's their work is crap!one of our vans went recently and had lots of advisorys,they did some welding that looked like it had been done by a remedial and they didnt mention the exhaust was rustin off(came off the other day)plus other stuff so BE WARNED!!!

i dont do them but know where to take em that wont rip you off.

my car passed at cavendish despite it having a fault with the dash instrument electrics (i guess it didn't do it on the day!). I managed to fix the day after - was just the plug on the back of the unit - had come loose. Was a bit scary when the speedo would suddenly dip to zero and I was doing 40 lol.

I put my civic in for a mot in the port it failed number plate light and what turned out to be the lambda sensor. But on the retest more than seven things popped up on the advisory it seams that it passed and he went looking for more problems. that weren’t there the week before or it failed first time and they just stopped looking. and now I am really not looking forward to doing it all again next year

They're not supposed to check for more faults other than the ones that are on the list.

occasionally you do get the odd one who will tell you if he finds anything else that's wrong

can become quite handy, but they shouldn't put it down as an advisory... more of a "you do know....."

I had the opposite, knew my plate was illegal, forgot to change it over. He said it was a fail but that he couldnt be bothered failing it so sent me on my way.

My old man uses them everytime for his older cars (BMW 8 series etc) and never had an issue.

I've been rejected four times in the past month on this single handbrake problem. It is literally at half the pressure of the foot brake - it stopped the car fine on a hill.
I'll take it elsewhere now!
