The lightweight model packs advanced fuel cells and an energy storage system that gives the car a range of 250 miles (400km) per tank of hydrogen.

It has been developed by a consortium of UK companies and universities.

"Figures suggest the car should be capable of doing 0-60 [miles per hour] in about seven seconds," Matthew Parkin of classic sports car manufacturer Morgan told BBC News.

Interesting stuff... okay its not the fastest thing ever, but 0-60 in 7 seconds for a Hydrogen powered car is damn impressive!!

Can't believe our government helped to fund it's development too lol!! grin

IIRC BMW and Honda have made fleets of Hydrogen cars, and not concept things either - fitting the hyrdogen motors to common models already in production.

The problem with the Hydrogen is storage - its a highly volotile gas, and must be stored / handled very carefully of the consequences could be disasterous - especially in the event of a tank rupturing in the event of an accident...

Though the Goverenment may find it hard to tax water / zero emission fuels, Im sure they will find away to tax the containers, the refinment process, or just slap a huge yearly road tax on the Hydrogen cars....

Yeah... but none of them have been sports car's... from what the article say's, Mazda have developed a hydrogen version of the RX8 wankel, which can utilise either petrol or Hydrogen.

As good as the current production car's are, there will, in time, become a market for high performance car's, and I think this article is getting at the fact that manufacturers are already starting to develop purpose built hydrogen sports car's with performance approaching that of their petrol counterparts. This and the new RX8 multifuel are probably signalling the start of the performance sector of the hydrogen market.

Well here's and link to the BMW 7 Series, seems I was slightly mistaken as it appears to be more of a hybrid that 100% hydrogen....

I am however very interested in what method the government will use to tax these cars - they will find a way to tax these cars.... coffee

As for production cars, I think car design will remain very similar, just the propultion method will change, I doubt futuristic concept cars will bear the hydrogen motors as I think car manufactures will be more concerned on getting the principle working rather than the looks, and will spend the time getting current models running on the fuel.

Yes, they will tax it somehow... atm, they will make a mint from the refinement process though anyway, as it involves using a lot of electric... hence Hydrogen car's arnt actually carbon neutral as yet.

And they say there has been a BOOOM in water bottle sales.
And people will pay upto £25 for a ltr or water.

Oil has a lot to learn lol..

--------------------

I guess it will go like the unleaded did?
Half the price of what it should be, and then when there is
a tilt of xx amount buying bring the prices up.

--------------------
I think this type of technology is only a decade away
before we will be having members meet with water cars at
an affordable price.

I wonder if they would add any additives to the water?
Vimto or kiwi or cola to keep the engine clean...

It is an interesting time ahead of us and the next revolution
in cars IMO smile
