just wondering how much people know about engine swaps for fords? i.e what engines would be best moving upto such as going from a 1.6 zetec to a....?? what are the advantages and disadvantages of 2.0 Zetecs, 2.1 ZVH's, 1.6 CVH Turbo's etc, what gain is there in making a ZVH engine, things like that also would the ecu need to be swapped, wiring looms, other parts. what are the costs of an engine, parts, labour etc any help?

Firstly you have to find an engine that will physically fit to your exhisting components (Manifolds, Gearbox, Mountings etc etc.) that is allot harder than you would think.
Secondly you will come across so many unknown problems whilst doing to exchange like a water pipe isnt long enough or there arnt enough water inlets on the new engine etc etc.....
Thirdly fueling and timing, if you retain the original manifolds then the 1600cc injectors would not be able to cope with the extra fuel remands of the 2000cc and the engine would run lean (Melted Pistons) you could of course change the inlet manifold also but then are the injector wiring plugs the same or different ? Is the M.A.P. sensor the same wiring plug ? Is the oxtgen sensor the same plug ? Are wires long enough ?
Fourthly does the ecu need to be re-mapped ? Or will the donor cars ecu fit and work correctly. Technoligy technoligy...........
I have done allot of engine swaps in my time, however this was before technoligy took over, (Plugs n points day's)
e.g. Mk 2 Escort, from 1300cc to 2.1 Pinto 5-speed and 1300cc Astra to a 1800cc GTE Running twin webber 45 D.C.O.E. and a full peco exhaust with 4-branch manifold.........
Hope this clears things up for you......

Whilst on this subject, I've heard its been done before and have been told this costs about £3,000 for the full system
Escort cozzie engine transplant & 4 wheel drive conversion onto a Fiesta
Scooby, any idea if this is possible or if its just a rumour.
If it is possible then I'm gonna get saving! <img border="0" alt="[laff my ass off]" title="" src="graemlins/cwemotions042.gif" />

wouldnt have thought the 2.0 fits in fiesta.Your 1600 probably has single point injection whereas a 2.0 mondeo motor has multipoint (4 injectors) so dont reckon the inlet manifold on it would fit in your engine bay.Not much room in a mondeo never mind a fiesta. As scooby said i reckon there would be major wiring differences.Head and cams would be one way of extra power but for the amount of cash it would only give little extra bhp.
