Just for information. I'm not certain if anyone has mentioned it on here . Wirral council have starting issuing parking fines for cars who stop at the bus stop at Hamilton Square. I regularly drop my son off so he can catch the train over to Liverpool for work. Yesterday received a parking fine through the post for dropping my son off outside Hamilton Square station. For a few seconds to drop some one off £70 seems excessive. So for anyone dropping anyone off at Hamilton Sq park further back. Speaking to local taxi guy he said the council have installed a camera just for job. There are no signs at least none that I can see.

The road marking states bus stop so unfortunately only buses can stop there.

iirc there is a single yellow line all the way down that section which will have a sign somewhere stating what restriction times are in place, you can only stop to drop off when the sign states you can. I think there is no stopping 7am to 7pm except for buses, the sign used to be on the fence beside the bus stop, although the sign appeared to refer to the bus stop it is for the single yellow line which passes through the bus stop.

That area is inside Birkenhead Controlled Parking Zone (CPZ) so if you find a bit of road without a yellow line, it would still not be allowed unless it specifically says it is a parking space (in which case it would probably be metered).

Genius planning, a station without a drop-off zone.

I don't know if it is still there, but there was a drop off spot conveniently placed on Bridge Street.
It is where I normally drop my brother off a couple of times a year.

Your right, there was double yellows down Bridge Street then they allocated a 15 minute drop off box by the narrowest part of the pavement. I also don't know if it is still there or not. I don't think I've driven down that part of Hamilton Street since they removed the buses only signs a long time ago.

If you haven't already paid then go to http://forums.pepipoo.com/index.php and see if they can get the ticket cancelled for you, they are very good at this sort of thing.

I'm sorry you were fined, but I wish they'd install a few more cameras around the borough.

Double yellow lines are treated with contempt on New Ferry Road around the Toll bar, causing mayhem, and the selfish sods who park their cars on the road outside Bebington road Tesco (I'll only be a minute!) making it difficult for people coming out of the car park to see if the road is clear are also very irritating.

If the cameras are that smart, they may also be used to detect illegal parking in disabled and family parking bays and fine them too.

I can think of several other places where heavy fines would be a very good idea, and I'm sure so can anyone else.

My rail replacement bus couldn't stop outside Hamilton Square a few weeks ago due to inconsiderate parking in the bus stops.

My point exactly Gibbo.

If you park on a double yellow you are putting your personal convenience ahead of the public good, and very often endangering others.

Don't do it, and you won't be fined. Its really simple.

I'm all for clamping down on those who do it. Sorry Wickerman.

I'll add a correction to my statement about the single yellow line. Unless the sign states otherwise you can drop off and pick up on a single yellow line unless the sign says you can't, this applies within the restricted time of the sign provided there is no element of waiting involved.

So you have a single yellow no parking line, [ remember its a no parking line?]
Then you have a sign on a post somewhere, and on that sign it will tell you what you can or can't do! like stop and drop off, load or unload, there should also be yellow lines on the curb!
How do you read the sign?
Come on everyone!

The fine of £70 is reduced to £35 if paid fairly quickly and if appealed the £35 stays until the appeal is (usually) refused.

You are allowed to drop off at any time on most single yellow lines. The restriction is usually for waiting, not stopping.

Generally the sign tells you what you cannot do, it doesn't mention what you can do.
