Hi All, So im new to this hobby but excited about it also!
Being the history geek that i am (aswell as abit of coin collector) i thought the next thing i wanted to explore was metal detecting. Think my boyfriend thought i was messing when asked for one last year, then last years birthday, but obviously took the hint and got me one for christmas. He also got me a little trowel that attatches on for when it something. & clip on bag to put finds in as well as book.
Obviously it also came with instuctions but im the sort of person that reads instructions like they are written in Egyptian so still trying to work out what im doing. Ha.(i also have Narcolespy, so reading something thats not in simple terms, im off to the land to the land of nod!)
Its just with the disc dial mainly, what setting to have it on depending on what look for.
Had a test run yesterday, mainly found bits of tractor and what looked like a type of lead pipe.... but at least i know its working.
I havent a clue about makes a models but im made up with what i got. Its a Visua VESEZMD, of that means anything to anyone. Ha.
Anyway, im completely new to this so look forward to reading what you guys find, any advice and general chatting about it.Thanks for reading. Laura x

Hi Laura welcome to Wiki. I used to metal detect but due to various things and my back complaining had to give up. It's really exciting when you first start but believe me you will dig up a load of can tops and screws but don't let that deter you. My advice would be to try and pick a good location maybe try and research what went on there in times past. That was a problem with me I didn't really get to detect anywhere good. Get your boyfriend to go along with you as it can be really lonely on your own. I really hope you strike gold and find something really old, it has been done even on first digs. Please put your finds up on here because I would love to see them it doesn't matter if you think they're not that interesting ,I used to put mine up and apologize because they were not that good but I think alot of folks on here like to see whatever. I'm sure you will enjoy your metal detector and good luck with your digs. It's been very quiet on this thread lately so hope you will revive it.

Thank you Cools! I have horses so thought to just get into the swing of things, i'd just have ago and get used to using it around the fields. Was impressed how deep it found such small things! All just very rusty bits of fence etc, but at least i knew it was working.
Dug up a couple of chunks of metal that i have no idea what they are or used for, but was happy all the same. Ive kept them so i will take to piccies this week and upload them for you. Thanks again for the advice.

That sounds great Laura, that's the only way to get to know your detector use and practice.Doesn't matter what you dig up as you say it works and you getting to grips with it. I expect you have already watched the you tube videos about the hobby some really good ones there. Whenever I felt a bit despondent I would watch one and the thought if digging up stuff like they do drove me on. You're very lucky having fields to go on where I expect you feel very comfortable. I look forward to seeing your finds on here, people will help you out with telling you what bits and pieces were used for. Happy hunting.

Hi. Recommend Conway. 2miles south of the pass at the bottom of Conwy mountain . Lots of military brass around and it does get boaring all dated pre 1942.
