Bit fed up with people blaming others for the slow response to the explosion. I should think the Labour Councils crocodile tears fooled no one in some quarters.

Why not simply repeat what was said? If you think it's worth reading.

I suspect the explosion - apart from the injuries sustained by the unfortunate people who happened to be nearby - may turn out to be a good thing for New Ferry, eventually. The place has been allowed to slide further and further into disrepair, with nothing being done to improve it by the council for years. The explosion concentrated attention on the place and the council has - at last - realised something has to be done about it. Without the disaster, I am pretty sure they would have continued to let it slide. It has also caused the locals to form a group dedicated to its regeneration which is a far better thing that leaving councils to invent half-baked 'regeneration' schemes of their own.

I am not, of course, suggesting the disaster is something anyone in their right mind would approve of, but rather that in the long term it might result in some beneficial investment in the place.
