As some of you may know I'm now the proud owner of an '87 Mk2 Golf Gti valver. (sorry for the shit pics, they were taken on my dusty phone camera) ![[Linked Image]](http://www.cliosport.net/gallery/data/500/medium/DSC00199.JPG) It's in need of a total overhaul. I've ordered a new engine loom and a full interior loom. Who ever had it before me installed a Cat 1 alarm complete with door poppers etc. They made a total dogs dinner of the electrics as you can see. ![[Linked Image]](http://www.cliosport.net/gallery/data/500/medium/z2.JPG) ![[Linked Image]](http://www.cliosport.net/gallery/data/500/medium/z1.JPG) I've removed the mess that is the interior loom and started stripping the interior dash, door cards, carpet, seats etc etc ![[Linked Image]](http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d190/Cocamainy/DSC00423.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d190/Cocamainy/DSC00425.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d190/Cocamainy/DSC00419.jpg) The engine is in fairly good condition and was running about 6 months ago. So hopefully not much will be needed to get it running again. ![[Linked Image]](http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d190/Cocamainy/DSC00421.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d190/Cocamainy/DSC00422.jpg) Also needed is a new petrol tank as a scallys set a fire right next to the car (which had a full tank at the time), this softened the plastic tank causing the petrol to eat at the tank. So the petrol in the tank turned into a tar like substance. ![[Linked Image]](http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d190/Cocamainy/DSC00420.jpg) Look out for updates. Gary

I pitty me, tbh. There is shit loads to sort out. Here's the plan.
Get the electrics sorted for starters. Then petty tank and hope she fires up, maybe new sparkies. If everything is running sweet, new seats, a show cage front and back, get rid of the horrible 17s and get some nice deep dish 15s and tidy up all the trim. See where I can go from there. I want a complete respray in the original monza blue. I need 2 new door as I dont fancy hooking up door poppers as it currently has no handles.
Once the aesthetics of the motor is sorted start on the sound sound system (hopefully)

My bro's Mk2 Syncro GTi is still up for grabs, he's happy to let it go for £450! Stonking good car, needs some TLC (or stripping for parts!)

Its been a while but - Just a small update - I now have an empty car ready to refit.... ![[Linked Image]](http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d190/Cocamainy/DSC00491.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d190/Cocamainy/DSC00488.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d190/Cocamainy/DSC00489.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d190/Cocamainy/DSC00490.jpg) Lots of cancer in the bonnet - strangely though, its only the bonnet and slam panel that has rust ? ![[Linked Image]](http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d190/Cocamainy/DSC00492.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d190/Cocamainy/DSC00493.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d190/Cocamainy/DSC00494.jpg) I've started removing the old (raped) loom and labeling up the new one - which is taking the majority of my time. But hopefully tomorrow, I'll have the rest out and labeled up ready to put back in. ![[Linked Image]](http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d190/Cocamainy/DSC00497.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d190/Cocamainy/DSC00498.jpg) Not much to say really, apart from my knuckles hurt from dragging them on every sharp object I come across in the engine bay G

I finally worked up courage to phone the guy that had originally done all the work on the Golf. The only reason I thought it was okay to phone him was that it looked like he worked in a Garage as all the receipts were trade receipts. So I explained who I was and why I was phoning, and he seemed quite interested. (I’d been told not to bother by a few people as they thought I’d be impolite and just plain weird). Anyway I’m glad I did because I found a lot out about the car, including RR results Plus he said he’ll give me a copy of all the progress photos he took when he first built it 8 years ago!! The work to the engine is as follows – rebore to 1875cc, all internals from a 2.0 Audi, hi lift cams, a rough port to the head (can some one explain this please? Why not a smooth? He said something about the cars not responding as well to a smooth finish??) RR @ 184bhp So as you can imagine I’m quite happy!

Sounds great. Keep us informed of the progress - looking forward to seeing it. Rough port to the head might mean better airflow for better perfomance - thats all I can think of, Stuy will know best

I found out off another forum that a rough port encourages a better air/fuel mix, which burns more cleanly - thus increasing power. Cool.
