I'm hoping to move house very soon and the house I'm buying doesn't have a driveway. I'm looking to get the kerb dropped by the council and a drive built on my front lawn. I would require it wide enough for two cars. Does anyone know roughly how much the council charges for this and can I get it done cheaper by a local firm instead? Also, how long does it usually take them to do it?
Thanks,
Julie

think question has been asked before on here. best going to Wirral to get it straight from the horses mouth. Don't think you can use any old contractor . Underground services to consider. should only be a couple days work

Most roads don't need planning permission for dropped kerbs, generally only classified or principal roads do. It is usually cheaper to get an approved contractor to do the work than the council, you need to find a NRSWA accredited contractor, you may find this link of use https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/approved_contractors_wirralMost council's provide a list of approved contractors, Wirral doesn't seem to.

This is an extract from the link I put in earlier (g) NAME OF HIGHWAY - If you need a new vehicle access from a road onto your property, or you propose to alter an existing access to a highway a pavement crossing must be constructed at your expense. All work on the highway must be carried out by the Borough Engineer or his agent and if you receive Planning Permission you should write to the following address to make arrangements for the work to be carried out:
Interim Director of Technical Services
Cheshire Lines Building Canning Street Birkenhead Wirral CH41 1ND
Telephone (0151) 606 2004
