Woman receives parking ticket for stopping during two minutes’ silence on Armistice Day

[Linked Image]

A woman who pulled over to take part in the two minutes’ silence on Armistice Day was given a parking ticket while paying her respects.

Anna Whitworth, whose great uncle died when his ship was sunk during the First World War, was driving through London on Tuesday when she heard Big Ben strike 11 to signify the start of the two minutes of silence.

She claims she pulled over on a quiet street in Kensington and stood by her car to take part in the tradition.

‘As I stood there, a ticket officer came up to my car making noises that I couldn’t park there. I told him I was only observing the silence for Armistice Day for those fallen in the war but he just looked completely blank,’ she said.

He went on to issue her a ticket while the silence was still being observed all around him.

Ms Whitworth admitted that she was parked on a double yellow line, however she called the decision to give her a ticket during the brief pause ‘daft and unreasonable’.

She even has the ticket showing that it was issued by the jobsworth traffic warden at 11.01am.

Kensington and Chelsea Council said in a statement: ‘The Council would certainly wish to take these circumstances into account and would encourage this motorist to contact its parking office.’

Jobsworth--absolutely!

Loved the story below it as well

It’s the political party that thinks it stands for British values.

So why on earth did the British National Party tweet a day late reminding people to observe the two minute silence.

In a moment of delicious irony, the party’s tweet included the words: ‘Others may forget but we remember’. Errr…

Here’s a reminder for the BNP. The eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month means 11am on November 11.

Someone at the party sent out the tweet at 6.50am this morning saying: ‘Remember to observe the #TwoMinutesSilence at 11a.m. today. Others may forget but we remember.’

It was only at 11.15am (perhaps after the one-man minute silence) that someone at the party realised what had happened.

And guess what they blamed it on? Yup… their phone.

How many cars are on the road? How many stopped, now go tell them they should of all stopped, cause that's what you have implied. Buses, trains, planes, boats, I can just see the M6 stopping. Common sense rules, not a stupid woman. Maybe you can get everyone to stop next year?. Yep, you will fail and ask yourself why. Get a petition up for the whole world to stop, I`ll stop.. and I wont cause any problems, accidents or whatever. She knew she was going to stop so she should of planned her journey better not want to be a martyr herself!.

I thought that at first but then I thought when she set off in her car that day she must of said to herself that wherever she was at the time she was going to stop. So no compassion from me.
