Spray some Mr Sheen or similar silicone based furniture polish onto a piece of cloth. Apply that to the two halves of the zip. Whizz the zip up and down a couple of times. Job done! I've used this on tent, rucksac, Barbour Jacket zips etc. for years.

Thanks folks. Actually I tried Pledge silicon polish which I presumed was a Mr Sheen type, and it didnt work on this particular sticky zip . I need a fix by tomorrow otherwise I would have used Ebay , Ive sold the tent and the guy is supposed to be picking it up this weekend.
Ive heard of using candle wax thanks and Ive got one somewhere. Will ring Claremont Farm Bebington to see if theyve got any Beeswax - a friend suggested they might , and if they havent , the candle it is!!

Beeswax won't be any better than a candle.

Venice use a block of soap mate, run it along the zip a few times and all should be good.

May as well try and release it with WD40, then maintenance with candle, beeswax etc.

Thanks Chris, Bert and Kev. Ill throw the works at it I think. I just have this vision that if I dont get it smoothly running before selling, the buyer might forget hes buying a very old item, and start wrenching the zip up and down before lubricating it , and then blame me that it broke. (I did warn him it was sticky and needed attention mind) .
Hubby has just found a little bit of crossbow wax too, so Ill use different things on sections of the zips and see what works best .
Thanks everyone for your help.

When i worked at YKK (zip manufacturer) we used silicone spray on the nylon zips, which are mostly used on tents.
