We have a Microsoft Wireless keyboard & mouse which until the other day worked perfectly. In the middle of typing an email, the keyboard just stopped working. The mouse continues to work no problem.

I've tried the following:
- replacing the batteries
- resetting the wireless receiver (not possible no reset switch) & the mouse is still working
- plugging in a USB Keyboard. This doesn't work either
- plugging in another USB Keyboard. Light comes on on the keyboard

Have been to the Device Manager & it states that everything's working OK.

Not sure where to go from here.. Any advice anyone?

Boot up in safe mode and see if you can get any keyboards to work. You have to press F8 to get the safe mode option so if you can get that the keyboard is being disabled in normal windows mode.

You may have a virus.
You mentioned it happened when doing emails.

Test the keyboards on another computer just incase its a coincidence.

Is the sensor in the USB stick or does it have a little box thing on a short lead? My one at work has this and the box needs batteries as well.

Have since found out it was a virus. Only solution was to wipe the drive clean & start again. Thanks for your suggestions everyone.

ouch frown

Make sure you have some antivirus software running.
That also integrates in to your e-mail software.

Thanks for letting us know the outcome.
