Yes Dusty, it would be, thanks. Although I can't read this copy, they did live in Well Lane.
Can you say what his employment was then, for me?

He was listed as a 'cotton brokers porter' about early 1850's

(whatever that might have been)

Granny,
on the 51 census he was a Cotton Brokers Porter, I'm sure Dusty will confirm, on Richard Andrew,1852/53 his sons baptism, he's a Porter. Will try and find out his occupation when his daughter Annie Elizabeth was baptised.

Yes! Bert you are correct. I have just been on the national archives and the dates at sea are just before the card index was introduced.
The only way forward is a ships list, which requires signing on port, date and ships name or number. He could of been a ship mate of "John Corlett". Don,t give up Gran, not until the sun is back anyway.

Bert,

That's good news now, as we know he was obviously coming home between trips. (more babies) and not an isolated trip. So it probably wasn't anything to do with the Crimean War. Process of elimination and every little helps.

Very grateful.

Dusty, that is very interesting and if the Richard sailing from Gravesend (which is only 10 miles from Bexley) is not the one, then I assume he would sail from Liverpool.
I will continue to search and endeavour to somehow get a little more to research with. The vessel you mention will be a good point to start with.

You have all helped such a lot, and it's much appreciated. If I should get any further along this path, I shall let you know. There are a few channels open to explore now.

Many thanks indeed, to you all.
