Triumph Mayflower .... Known as the Razor Edged Saloon. Quite well appointed for their day I seem to remember! Like early Fords - any colour you like.... as long as it's black !

Chris, that chippy was Baily's. I rember a red TR2 sitting on the pavement out side Wright's at arround 53/54, do you remember the Triump Mayflower {saloon} out arround that time. It had an all ally body.
Thanks, Jim, I couldn't remember the name. Perhaps you also remember the name of the chippy in Prenton Rd. West, on the corner of Parkhurst Rd. I think there's a bathroom place there now. I used both that one and Bailey's. The Mayflower was produced from 1949 to 1953; I didn't know it had an ally body. Hope you're feeling better now.

Yes Chris I remember that chippy on the corner of Parkhurst, use to go there as well as Bailey's. I use to go to them at lunch time when at Prenton Park road school. {not both the same lunch time} but not sure if the name was Haymer's or not, do remember they made great scallops. Tablets off the doc seem to be doing the trick as I feel much better now thanks.
Can remember why the Mayflower was known as the razor edge like Pinz said. The top of the front wings and the line down the back edge from the roof where a sharp crease

The Mayflower actually had a steel body,the floorpan being welded to the chassis.It also had a gutless 1247cc side valve engine.It was designed with the post-war American market in mind.A total failure there.
A fair proportion of the 34,000 odd production did go to Ceylon!
An uncle of mine owned a U.K. example in the early '60s,it was as rotten as a pear bodywise.
The Renown and slightly later 2000,not the'60s one,werebodied in alloy.

J. Blake & co,Ford dealers were at Claughton Road, Hind Street and Heswall. They also had a small place up near the Art gallery (with a sail maker in the loft)
They also had a large commercial/storage site in Liverpool (near Penny Lane?) and a car dealership in Liverpool too.

RE Wright was a Triumph and Standard garage and dealer. The original garage was on Borough Road between Temple Road and Prenton Road West. My Mum used to work at RE Wright's, so my Dad had a succession of Triumphs having previously had Fords (Popular, Prefect). One of my schoolteachers played football for the garage once, but he was far too good for their standard of football!
