WIRRAL man Thomas Owen man appeared in court accused of stockpiling more than 3.5 million indecent photos and films of children.

Thomas Owen is also charged with inciting a seven-year-old child to be involved in pornography.

Wirral magistrates court heard Owen faces a total of 30 charges involving child pornography, including possession of images classed as level five.

Indecent images of children are graded from one to five, with five the most serious.

Dressed in a dark suit with a blue tie, the balding 33-year-old, of Wilton Street, Wallasey, attended a brief appearance before the court in Birkenhead.

Owen’s solicitor Chris Murphy said his client would be making no indication of his plea at this stage.

Prosecutor Alan Currums summarised the charges for the court, saying they included the possession of an estimated 3.5 million pictures and movies on a laptop computer.

Among the allegations Owen faces are four charges of distributing pictures, via a computer file sharing network.

Other charges against Owen relate to making indecent photographs and to possession of photos and movies “of children with a view to their being distributed or shown by you or another”.

The court heard Owen faces the allegation that he made 14,450 indecent photographs and 6,023 movies classified by police as level five.

Another charge is that Owen had 610,928 indecent photographs and 20,519 movies on his Toshiba laptop.

The charges of inciting the seven-year-old child to be involved in pornography were brought under the Sexual Offences Act 2003, while the remaining charges were brought under the Protection of Children Act 1978.

Chair of the magistrates bench Yvonne Woodhead said the case would be transferred to crown court. Owen was released on unconditional bail until he appears before Liverpool crown court on July 17.

Well that many indecent images and movies did not end up on his laptop by accident!

If he's never been in trouble before its normal to give bail.

I imagine bail will be more painful for him than remand...

Surely,he poses an even bigger threat to children now? especially if he is expecting a custodial sentence.

not necessarily. probably more chance of him doing one.

sadly the harm to children has already been done.

just been on jury service-very interesting. 2 guys up. we found 1 guilty as hell the other we all believed was guilty but lacked one piece of evidence so we reluctantly had to give him not guilty.

Good he got bail, now lets hope someone cuts hit throat while they have the chance PEDO!

No matter how strongly you feel about this person, I can't help but think inciting anyone to attempt the murder of a person on bail by cutting their throat is correct or even legal which is why I'm flagging this post.

Anyway, if you feel that strongly why not do it yourself?
