Hi. Any one any info or pictures (before) the recent Meols/ Leasowe revetment contruction? Would dearly like to see some photos of how it looked before. I`ve found this: http://www.wirral.gov.uk/my-services/environment-and-planning/coastal-protection but need to know more! Also, interesting to know that there used to be a forest (now submerged) between Meols amd Leasowe (although maybe not so unusal with the passing of time, but fascinating none the less!!) Cheers!

I have no pictures of this Area, but I remember jogging along this shoreline in the 80's, It was then I believe that they started work to concrete the section you refer to.

There were small wooden tree stumps and a fence in the sand which could be seen sometimes when the tide was out, it was here I read that a certain reverend from the early 19th century found old artifacts and paid local children money to collect any items found here, some of which are now in a Liverpool museum.

This has been mentioned here before I think it was this link,
https://www.wikiwirral.co.uk/forums/ubbthreads.php/topics/194865/petrified_forest_near_Meols.html

I went over the area between the old Meols public baths and the dogs leg where the coastline changed towards Moreton with a metal detector in the late 80's but all i found was an old firemans coat button dated 1910.

hope this helps.

john

At very low waters at the foot of the concrete slope between moreton and meols you can see what looks like little fence posts running at an angle out from the wall. Was told these were old fish traps that held the fish in as the tide ran out

Didn't they find an old boat in the original sea defences when they were building the new ones? If memory serves it was one that broke its moorings and ended up there and was too big to move so they concreted over it?
