That was superb!! That's what we do, we're British! Shame they blocked the RAF doing a fly bye in the F14's coz it would be seen as a show of military presence, but, hey ho, was good all the same.....

Thank goodness that expensive farce is over, time to dig deep into your savings to pay for it.

I ain't got TV, don't watch the stuff. I hardly missed the olympics although I managed to catch the men's 100 at a friends. Only bit I did watch which was exciting.

On the whole though my life is no different but I bet loads of other peoples are for good and bad.

I never used to watch the opening and closing ceremony's but after seeing what Beijing achieved 4 years ago it drew me in.

I was overhaul impressed with the out come.
We did do it different, and even i was confused at times what was going on and looking for the fast forward button that wasn't there watching it live lol.

It wasn't a flop.
But only time will tell if the whole Olympic hoo har will put us in more debt or not. Its a hard act to follow keeping it in credit as i understand its always been a white elephant. But fingers crossed.

What impressed me more than the Athletes was the Volunteers and the standing ovation that they received for a job well done.

I just hope the world now doesn't think were all purple and pink now lol

And no security issues in the end.

Well done GB on the whole you did it right as lord coe said.

And if you seen the closing ceremony then you must agree Boris needs dance lessons lol, he looked like the uncle no one wants to dance with at a family party.

Granny, I'am extactic that a few people managed to attain the achievements they wanted, not a problem, If they had used their own money to do it then I would have been over the moon for their abilities, being used in their sports and prowess to obtain the money from gullible to do it, just imagine how much these same people are going to get for their appearances in tv/media adverts will they pay the public money back, somehow I think they won't, I don't want to be forced pay for something I didn't want or need, killjoy, I may be, but if you want you can pay my tax for the farce as I won't stop you. happy

I believe that the majority of the Team GB athletes were either self funded or applied for lottery funding.

Wench, and lottery money comes from taxing and cutting down the Lotto money to half, people pay to try and win money, not to see it sliced up amongst others, please keep thinking the Olympics are for the people of this country it helps you to think we have a real Democracy.

Mark2621, I'am not British, I'm English, Labour destroyed Britain, the same politicians plus the Libs and the Cons have run this country down to the ground , you keep your stiff upper lip, I'll watch you getting kicked in the privates, it appears everybody for themselves these days, what do the Yanks say, no taxtion without representation. seeyu

You don't have to play the Lottery or live in the UK for that matter.

It doesn't make me think anything, I was merely making a statement. I don't play the lottery. Nobody forces anyone to play it smile They know that not every penny goes towards winnings so it's a futile arguement really.

Well if you want to be silly, then it can be extended to many other things. My children left school years ago, why should I pay tax towards education? I don't agree with wars, why should I pay tax for them? Not sure I'm in agreement with all the foreign aid, why should I pay tax for that I don't use the leisure centres and not very often the lbraries, why should I pay council tax for those? Etc. etc. etc.
10% of the population live in London and many of them foreign. They paid their taxes and probably most a much higher rate than we do. Plus, their council tax was hiked up towards the costs. They didn't complain. Did you feel the same when the Commonwealth games were in Manchester?
What would you like to see apart from doom and gloom in this country?
The amount of tax you have paid towards it probably wouldn't buy you a Sunday lunch.
