Carl at Denhall fisheries contacted me last weekend to let me know the new lake would be opening this week

I made arrangements to fish a midweek overnighter and had a great start to the season on there.

The new lake, although with immature planting at the moment, has more underwater features than u could ever imagine.

With my first few pulls through with the marker rod it revealed deep gullys, sloping bars and some nice deep trenches. finding various areas with gravelly spots i knew i had far too many features to think about !

Opting for a mid range rod on the edge of a deep bowl and a far rod tucked up to the island i tried to cover some potential areas.

BY the evening id been getting a lot of line bites so i slackened the lines off and topped up the baiting spots.

Shortly after midnight and a good scrap, i banked a 14lb mirror, with just a few mat shots back it went. Account open

At around lunchtime i was wrapping the kit away and having my last coffee when the left hand rod melted away. With the fish taking line i slowed it up and turned it back to my swim and after a short tussle into the waiting net.

At 26lb 8 oz to say i was overjoyed was an understatement. A lovely way to start a new venue.

Both fish were caught on SAE Crab and Oyster tipped with a plastic hi viz bait stop fished over beds of chopped boilies

The lake has common sense rules and these can be checked on the info boards as you arrive.

It can be booked for days sessions and nights by ringing

cracking fish mate smile and what a session for your 1st time on there. hats off to ya. just come off doing a 12 hr on there today and this is by no means a runs water. thought i would give my oppinion of it to give people an idea to the water. i think at times its going to be a tricky water to fish as when most lakes are designed they have some great features to fish at and to, but this takes fishing to a feature to a whole new level. an undwerwater feature haven lol there is various nooks and cranny's about the place as well as sudden deep holes and lumps and bumps and shelves at various depths. taking a marker rod to the place it a must ! as aswell as the features, areas of the lake hold some weed. some areas more than others so feeling the lead down to make sure your on clear hard ground will be they key to success on a lake such as this 1. please also note that this is a SPECIMEN LAKE which means all the carp in the lake are of a decent size and you must have the correct gear to accomodate that. i'd recommend line of at least 10lb breaking strain to be certain your not gunna be leaving gear and a load of line attached to a fish when it snaps you up. barbless or micro barb hooks ONLY ! and please take any photographs as quickly as possible as to return the fish as safely as possible. Fish of this size have lived for a long time so please be carful when handling these stunnin fish. this is a cracking local fishery and we need to respect and appreciate the likes of these venues as not to spoil future fishing for other local anglers. i will be spending a good few sessions up there this year so hopefully be back soon with some results from there smile can't be put off by 1 session. we love a challenge laugh
