Hi all. Just bought the Blackberry 9790 and I cant get my Gmail account to work on it. It says 'invalid email address or password' whenever I try to log on. Have tried resetting the password on my lappy and have checked that I have typed the email address correctly. Have changed the settings in my gmail to allow me to connect but still no joy.


Any ideas?

The password is case sensitive, make sure you don't have the caps on or you need to use the Alt key.

It might be easier for you to change the password using your PC and then try again using your Blackberry.

Just out of interest, have you bought it new or could it still have part of somebody else's details stored ?

I changed the password on my lappy just to make sure I knew exactly what it was and that it was all in lower case so I didnt have to use the Alt key. Phone is brand new today. I tried to install it on my older Blackberry too and it said the same thing. I have been thru the settings on my gmail and have enabled IMAP (whatever that is) and still no joy

I dont think you can get gmail on the BB unless there is an app for it. Try searching for the settings from the RIM website or google.

Thanks all . I had to set up a Blackberry email account and then forward my gmail to that. Hopefully that will work !!

Editted to add nope that didnt work either !!

It happened on mine too and when i put in googlemail instead of gmail as my email address it worked so try writing your email as googlemail instead x

Have you checked that IMAP is enabled in your main gmail settings?

I Have a BlackBerry Bold and have both my Webmail accounts setup on my BB. One is a Gmail and the other is Hotmail, both come through no problems. Providing you enter the correct login details then the BB server will find your webmail.

Daft question but have you enabled BB with your service provider?

Believe me I've asked every daft question All my BB services have been activated and I changed the password to Gmail on my lappy to something really easy and even got other ppl to type it in and it still wont work !! I give up
