Reason I ask is this time last year I attempted to grow some veggies, which went well up until it came to planting them out about April time, when they all just... wilted frown keen to try again but limited with space in the back. Wondering if anyone has had any great successes with limited space etc. Also, anyone know how much allotment plots are these days?
The same thing happened with flowers actually, they wilted when planted out, I could just be naturally un-green-fingered.... blush

Allotments on the Wirral cost £31 per year unless unemployed or an OAP when a 50% reduction is applied .
There is a waiting list for allotments , if you are allocated one you must keep it in good cultivated condition or risk eviction .
Although there is a waiting list plots do become available regularly , either being evicted or giving up after finding the amount of time & hard work that goes into tending an allotment is too much for them .

Thanks for that, it's actually a lot less than I was expecting tbh! I don't know if it would be the best plan for me though, with you mentioning it has to be kept in good condition I could probably only get to it once a week due to work/college, not sure if this would be enough??

Hi Gem gem, i've had an allotment for about five years and I think you are right to consider the ammount of time it needs, so many people think that it's easy going, not so! really need to put the time in to keep it up. As to your question about growing in a limited space, container growing works pretty well, you can plant most things, potatoes, beans, tomatoes, carrots, salad leaves etc. but whatever you grow in you need to make sure you keep it watered each day, same goes for all plants, so good luck

Hi Katie, thanks for the reply! I think last year I may have underwatered them then, was watering about 3 or 4 times a week as I didn't want to over water them lol! I didn't actually try to grow any of the veggies you mentioned, I tried with brocolli, cauliflower, sprouts and runner beans but once planted outside I just had no joy.
I recall my grandad used to be down his allotment about 5 times a week, that's what made me think that once a week possibly wouldn't be enough
