Its quite common that churches weren't given addresses at all when parish boundaries were quite clear. Its been giving me a headache in some research I'm doing, especially when villages were split in half between boundaries.

Thanks for the pointer DD.

Looking at the numbering in the list provided by derek, the church I was asking about is unnumbered (just like you say) but the sequence of house numbers before and after appear to have treated it as if it was 201 Old Chester Rd.

The church was unnumbered but 201 did exist.

I grew up in this area,it was my playground! and my first memories go back to early 70's..
St Lukes church was derelict then, and we used to go up to look at it an play in it, even though it was dangerous, and we were told not too, an there was talk of it being haunted, shockedand you could get 'the plague' just by goin in there- it fascinated me!
There were rows of desks bolted to the floor in one part, an slidey blackboards on the walls-it was just like goin back in time! Ive recently had this confirmed by a lovely little old lady i was talking to, who also grew up there, that it was a school room.
Also, our doctors was along there, on the same side as the garage a little further up,it was just a big terraced house that i remember, you walked into the first room and in there was a great big wooden polished table that dominated the middle of the room, and around the walls of the room were lots of wooden chairs.
You took the nearest empty chair and sat and waited....you
would hear a door go,then a buzzer, then the person nearest the door would get up,and go into the doctor in the next room!-no receptionist in them days! worked well though everyone got seen an he was a lovely doctor, Dr Mcauley his name was, i never used to mind goin cos he would give me a sweet! popcorn

St Lukes Church had its own school in a building above the church as you walked up those wide steps from Old Chester Road at the side of the church.
The school was no longer in use when i was a school boy in the mid to late 40s. I think the school building was badley damaged during the blitz and it was decided not to repair and use it any more.

I had a pal who went to ST Lukes school, he told me that they were move out of the school during the war as there was only one door and if that was blocked nobody would be able to get out. They were sent to Ionic Street school and it resulted in much fighting between the two schools. I remember the school but it was closed when I remember it in the 40's
