He will now serve a suspension that will carry over into Euro 2012. He kicked out at Dzudovic after losing the ball. Stupid - no other word for it.

Carling Cup: Chelsea v Liverpool Odds and Betting Preview

LONDON, UK - Chelsea entertain Liverpool tonight in the Carling Cup, just over a week since the Londoners slipped to 2-1 defeat against Kenny Dalglish’s side in the Premier League at Stamford Bridge.

However, The Blues are strong favourites to win the re-match, and are best-priced at 5/6 with Sky Bet and Victor Chandler. A draw would mean extra-time and can be backed at 13/5 with Betfred, whereas an away win for Liverpool is at a stand-out 4/1 with Stan James.

Chelsea are favoured by the bookies not only because of the home advantage, but also because they have had an extra day to recover for the quarter-final tie since their Premier League exertions at the weekend. Having flopped in the Champions League last week at Leverkusen, Chelsea bounced back to winning ways on Saturday, with a cosy 3-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers. Juan Mata was the star of the show with two assists and a goal, but André Villas-Boas has promised to tinker with his side, who last lifted the Carling Cup in 2007 when beating Arsenal in Cardiff. Lukaku, McEachran and Bertrand are all set to start the fixture, alongside some of the more familiar names in the Chelsea squad.

The Reds lost to Chelsea in the 2005 Carling Cup Final in Rafa Benitez’ first season with the club, and fans have to go back to 2003 when the club was last triumphant in the competition, beating Manchester United in the Final with goals from Gerrard and Owen. Nevertheless, they have won the competition a record seven times and can be backed at 7/1 with Blue Square to make it eight in 2012. Liverpool are sending a strong squad to London tonight, although Dalglish has made it clear he is not happy to have to play just 48 hours after the 1-1 draw against Manchester City in the league.

Having failed to qualify for Europe for the first time since 2000, Liverpool showed they are taking the Carling Cup seriously when they started Luis Suárez in attack for their Second Round match at Exeter City in August. Craig Bellamy is back in the squad and Jamie Carragher is expected to play against Chelsea, having been out for weeks.

In the correct score betting, the favoured outcome is a 1-1 draw at 13/2 with Ladbrokes, which looks a fair bet considering that Chelsea’s previous two Carling Cup matches have gone to extra-time. A 1-0 home win for The Blues is next at 7/1 with Ladbrokes, whilst 2-0 is at 15/2 with bet365, who will refund losing bets if the game finishes 0-0. A 2-2 thriller is 16/1 with Sky Bet, but a 2-1 win for Liverpool is more tempting at 14/1 with Blue Square considering that they have conceded one goal in each of their three Carling Cup games this season.

Punters should probably wait until the starting XIs are revealed until placing a bet on the first goalscorer market, but bets are refunded by the bookies if your chosen player does not feature at any point in the game. Fernando Torres should get a start against his former side and will attract bets at 11/2 with Irish bookie Paddy Power, whilst Sturridge is in better form and is available at the same odds with bet365. Salomon Kalou is another player who will be eager to impress his manager, and he is of interest at 9/1 with Paddy Power. Liverpool’s strikers Suárez, Carroll and Kuyt can be backed at 17/2, 10/1 and 14/1 respectively with bet365.

Chelsea are 2/5 with bet365 to qualify for the semi-finals, and 19/10 to be leading the game at both half-time and full-time. Punters expecting a tight game may like the 5/1 with Betfred about Draw/Draw, but Chelsea to win in extra-time at 10/1 with bet365 in the ‘method of victory’ market also looks like a massive price.

Finally Torres is 9/1 with Paddy Power to score two or more goals against his former club in the 90 minutes.

The game kicks-off at 7.45pm GMT on Tuesday 29 November, and is available to watch on the bet365 live streaming service

Liverpool Football Club is very surprised and disappointed with the decision of the Football Association Commission to find Luis Suarez guilty of the charges against him.

We look forward to the publication of the Commission's Judgment. We will study the detailed reasons of the Commission once they become available, but reserve our right to appeal or take any other course of action we feel appropriate with regards to this situation.

We find it extraordinary that Luis can be found guilty on the word of Patrice Evra alone when no-one else on the field of play - including Evra's own Manchester United teammates and all the match officials - heard the alleged conversation between the two players in a crowded Kop goalmouth while a corner kick was about to be taken.

The Club takes extremely seriously the fight against all forms of discrimination and has a long and successful track record in work relating to anti-racist activity and social inclusion. We remain committed to this ideal and equality for all, irrespective of a person's background.

LFC considers racism in any form to be unacceptable - without compromise. It is our strong held belief, having gone over the facts of the case, that Luis Suarez did not commit any racist act. It is also our opinion that the accusation by this particular player was not credible - certainly no more credible than his prior unfounded accusations.

It is key to note that Patrice Evra himself in his written statement in this case said 'I don't think that Luis Suarez is racist'. The FA in their opening remarks accepted that Luis Suarez was not racist.

Luis himself is of a mixed race family background as his grandfather was black. He has been personally involved since the 2010 World Cup in a charitable project which uses sport to encourage solidarity amongst people of different backgrounds with the central theme that the colour of a person's skin does not matter; they can all play together as a team.

He has played with black players and mixed with their families whilst with the Uruguay national side and was Captain at Ajax Amsterdam of a team with a proud multi-cultural profile, many of whom became good friends.

It seems incredible to us that a player of mixed heritage should be accused and found guilty in the way he has based on the evidence presented. We do not recognise the way in which Luis Suarez has been characterised.

It appears to us that the FA were determined to bring charges against Luis Suarez, even before interviewing him at the beginning of November. Nothing we have heard in the course of the hearing has changed our view that Luis Suarez is innocent of the charges brought against him and we will provide Luis with whatever support he now needs to clear his name.

We would also like to know when the FA intend to charge Patrice Evra with making abusive remarks to an opponent after he admitted himself in his evidence to insulting Luis Suarez in Spanish in the most objectionable of terms. Luis, to his credit, actually told the FA he had not heard the insult.

John Barnes made some interesting comments about the Suarezgate (I just made that up myself :-)) situation yesterday. He said that "Ignorance is not an excuse-but in this case it could be an excuse!" He was referring to the fact that, in Uruguay, where Suarez originates from, calling a black guy a "negro" is acceptable. "Negro" is actually the Spanish word for black and must obviously be used in a different context over there. Coming from a black man like John Barnes, who was one of the first generation of black players to suffer terrible racial abuse by the then generation of so-called supporters, I think it is admirable that he should be seeking to build bridges for the future and not to crucify a man who is a relative stranger in our country who has been welcomed with open arms by the fans of LFC-and overtly supported by his manager and team mates in the face of intmidating criticism from the "powers that be" Obviously, Suarez has said something to upset Patrice Evra. Knowing Evra's background as a bit of a trouble maker at international level (remember he almost got the French manager the boot at the World Cup) I myself question Evra's motives. I played the game at a decent level and remember full well people like Jake Doran, the famous centre-half of Cammell Lairds, who was one of the hardest men I ever played against, offering to kick me up in the air when I nutmegged him-and calling me a F***g dwarf!! It was all taken in good spirit and was "part of the game". The world is going mad now. Evra should front up and apologise to Suarez for being an asshole.

No, Tony. It was Runcorn. The Linnets. Home ground at Canal St (complete with ridiculous slope!) Stan Storton, (the former Tranmere player) was the manager and Alan King, (the former Tranmere player) was the team captain. I played for the TRFC "A" team before a knee injury put paid to a professional career. I also turned out briefly for Bromborough Pool and Stork in the West Cheshire league.

it is my understanding that suarez called him 'negrita' which translates as little black man, evra should look in the mirror, he is a little black man
i cant understand the fuss, we had laurie cunningham, the first black man to play for england, the media harps on about the need for black managers, remember , black is beautiful?
but when , in the heat of the moment, someone is called a black b****** or some such name, there is hell to pay
surely the offense should be taken at b******
or am i wrong

Its all about connotation, Evra may well be small and he is black but the problem arises in the use of black in a derogatory way.
If you're going to call someone a barstard which is offensive enough, why prelude it with the word black when we don't prelude it with the word white, why did he not just call him a little man. If you call a person who is black a black barstard, you are giving the impression that there is something wrong with being black.
In the fickle world of football and its supporters and seeing this is Liverpool Football Club related, there is no doubt in my mind if this was said by Rooney to Johnson, Liverpool would be demanding Rooney was hung.

we also have to bear in mind, this is the same evra, who made allegations against a staff member at chelsea, and was proven to be a liar, and the same evra, who caused mayhem at the world cup within the french squad, when as captain, he led the players in revolt by refusing to train after annelka was sent home by the manager. it appears , that when things arent going his way............... decide for yourselves

We have to judge each case on its merits, had the allegations been unfounded then there is no doubt in my mind it should have been Evra who got the 8 match ban.

apparently suarez admitted saying negrita, as he thought it was not offensive, but an accepted figure of speech in his homeland, had there been any malice, surely he would have denied it. that in itself makes me believe that it wasnt racially motivated.

Cardiff city booked their place to face liverpool or man city in the Carling Cup final with a 3-1 penalty shoot-out victory over Crystal Palace after the two teams were locked together at 1-1 after extra time.

It's a shame really but both Everton and Liverpool will never be as big a club as Man U. I can only ever see Liverpool as being a nearly team and eventually just settling into a mid table team. Everton without David Moyes? Well think we all know the outcome. Man United are now by far the most successful English club ever and that will never change. It makes me laugh the way Liverpool fans still think they are a big club. raftl raftl raftl raftl
One thing for sure the semi final on Saturday is bound to bore the neutral. The game on Sunday looks far more exciting.

does anybody agree with me that the semi final between liverpool and everton should have been played on the 15th?i know its the anniversary of the 96 that died but i really couldnt think of a better way to celebrate the lives that were lost than to have a FA CUP semi final derby between the 2 liverpool teams at wembley!!lets face it every single scouser wether it be everton or liverpool is gonna make that such a special occasion!!

A friend of mine died that day, my ex was there too. I know for a fact that the friend that died would have wanted it to be played on any day. Any excuse for the usual Derby banter!!

Alan Davies may have said it the wrong way, but I have to say I agree with what he was saying. As for him getting death threats - well done LFC fans!! Nice way to honour the dead that you want to "protect" from people having an opinion about a football match smack

I had the chance to go tomorrow but didn't fancy sitting by myself. Also, I hate Derby games. Getting so nervous already. Too many disappointments these last 30 years. Will turn off the mobile and go for a long walk in the countryside. Anywhere away from a TV.

Come on Everton!! Just for once don't let the blue half down. A bit of revenge for 77, 84, 86 and 89 would be fantastic! Probably be a Stevie GBH 89min winner though, such are my low expectations of Derby games these days.

Too defensive, have to have 1 touch of the ball to control it, can't pass (especially forwards), won't close down the opposing players quick enough giving them time to pass accurately
and don't get enough players in the box for crosses when we do get the ball wide.

Saying that it's easy to criticize when you're a spectator and not actually playing.

Maybe it would be better for the English team if we looked at the lower leagues to bring players through who are hungry and don't take it for granted as an automatic choice for England team selection

Games at BYC OFF for Health and safety reasons. Weather forecast of blustery winds and very cold temperatures (Wind Chill 0°C). Wirral Council pitches and The Delph closed this weekend 31st Jan/1st Feb. Tell opposition and referee
Lovely weather outside
No football to watch this morning (same yesterday) - all council pitches cancelled for Health and Safety - due to cold and windy weather forecast
(nanny state now - whoever did the cancelling has obviously never played football
I'd have thought it should have been up to the referees and teams to decide.
I'm disappointed not going to watch my son's match - hoping they'd make 14 out of 14 league wins.
I've played in hail, snow, rain windy conditions and on frozen and muddy pitches when I used to play

As you say Derek we have all played in horrible conditions and did not think too much about it but one of the things that people consider far more these days when cancelling games is the potential damage that will be done to the playing surface. As a former referee we were always told to think long and hard about that aspect. The local council always reserve the right to cancel games on their pitches otherwise it is up to the ref and never the teams. Most teams will want to play whatever the conditions but there is no doubt that playing on very wet/icy and muddy pitches can mean the pitch is unplayable for weeks afterwards.

VERY proud of England Women Team performance tonight against Russia in a World Cup Qualifying Match at Prenton Park.

Our #Lionesses were absolutely brilliant!!!! Truly a joy to watch.

Totally agree. They were amazing- such an inspiration to the young people/ girls in attendance.

Loved how Jodie went and interacted with them after the final whistle- reading on FB and Twitter how much it meant to them.

Best £7.50 (p.p) spent in a long time!

I see the old farts PC brigade at the FA pulled a Tranmere Rovers banner reading Super White Army..which has been a chant for years by the tranmere fans in reference to the white shirts they wear..much like references to Red or Blue by other clubs. A fitting banner given England playing in white.
Will red Indians or smurfs now be offended because teams make mention of red and blue. Utter bollox by the FA

We noticed that when we were there the other night. They put that up in the summer,a lot of the fans on one of the sites I'm on were saying how ridiculous it was taking it down.Super White Army gets chanted at every game, has done for years nothing racist in it,it's our white kit the players wear.

Can't say anything these days for fear of somebody being offended but I bet the sign is back for Saturdays game against Wrexham.Just hope no one from the FA is watching or Tranmere could be getting fined or complaining about the fans shouting Super White Army
