If MSN is running at 100% useage then it's quite possible, even likely, that the program hasn't installed correctly.

If you remove the program completely, reboot the machine and then re-install Windows Live (MSN) this should sort out the problem, if not you might have to run CCleaner or similar after removal to tidy up the register a bit.

Worst case you might need to run a registery repair but this is unlikely.

There are a few other (much less likely) things it could be but it's pointless flooding the forum with meaningless drivel if it's not going to be of any use smile

Thanks Dr, the only sensible responce as usual, I have uninstalled it, ran cc cleaner, done disk clean up, and reinstalled it, but as soon as I sign in cpu usage goes up to 100% with in 30 secs of signing in.
Dam windows 7, me thinks I will wipe drive and install xp, but what am concerned about is when the time comes that xp is extinct, could I go back to windows7, as there is a recovery partion on my laptop, or would I be best doing a back to factory from partion, then doing back up disc, could I then use these to go back to win7.

Oh and if, any one wants to make useless comments on this thread, then please dont bother, I require sensible comments and helpful ones.

If you decide to install XP then at the final "Blue Screen" before it starts to install Windows you will be shown the partitions available on that drive.

If you look at the partitions one will be labelled as [C], this is usually the largest and where you want to install windows. if there is a another labelled drive this will either be a VISIBLE partition on the same hard drive (NOT a Recovery Partition), a secondary drive (more than one drive in the machine) or you've left a Pen/Flash Drive plugged into it (yes I've done it).

The other label you might see is [_], this is usually a much smaller drive and would be hidden in normal use, this tends to be the recovery drive.

Okay, options, Format the C: drive and load XP, go back to Win7 later when you want to.

Load XP on the same partition and have multi-boot option

Remove all partitions on the drive, have a slightly bigger drive but lose the ability to reload Win7

Use a BackUp disc to make a bootable CD/DVD from the hidden partition.

One last thing, Windows Live for XP WILL NOT run correctly on Win7, have you downloaded the correct version, from the correct website, and did you turn off your AV progs whilst it installed (if they're not on an "Allow" list they'll just keep trying to connect....100% useage).

Any problems give me a shout.

Remembering that you should check that XP drivers are available for the wifi, keyboard etc before installing it over 7.

Right, I have just put laptop back to factory condition, updated win7 through microsoft update, all my drivers are all upto date.
Put msn on, the new one, as the old one was using 100% cpu constently, the new version is doing exactly the same, as soon as I log in, cpu shoots upto 100%, I then have to do ctrl/alt/delete to shut msn down.
Anyone have any ideas, its driving me mad.

Which process is taking the most?

There's a real danger that the left will drag Britain back to the 1970s, with secure well-paid jobs, ample housing, properly-funded NHS and social care, free tuition, student grants, final salary pensions, affordable rail fares and fabulous films and music. David Osland 2025
