Hi All,

I run a Wirral Puppy and Dog School and one of my clients is a lovely 80 year old woman. She has recently rescued a 7.5 month old Collie x GSD. She adores the dog as her husband is very ill at the moment. Pip is an excellent dog but unfortunatley pulls terribly on walks which is something we are working on, however my client has atheritis and is currently having trouble walking Pip let alone teaching her to walk nicely. If possible I want to keep Pip and her owner together so I was wondering if there was anyone out there who wouldnt mind taking Pip out for a good walk a couple of times a week and also work with myself on teaching her heelwork. Pip lives in Upton.

Many Thanks
Sarah

Who was crazy enough to allow an Collie/GSD cross go to an eighty year old in the first place. Both breeds are known for needing plenty of exercise, not the ideal dog to go untrained to an elderly couple. They would have been better off getting a yorkie or similar size dog. Is this the case of getting a dog a home regardless. Good luck with finding someone to walk it, i think you would be better off finding a younger home for it to live permanently, for the sake of all parties.

God help us,
Come yourself,
Don't send Jesus,
This is no place for children.

hi ive got an idia??? why dont you walk the dog and give it a good walk and train it yourself who in the right mind would buy an 80 year old a dog would of been better off geting him a budgie or a cat if the dog only gets walked 2 times a week. then it needs rehoming and if you knew about dogs like you say having a puppy school ?? why havent you tryed talking to the old gent and telling him its to mutch for him to handle as it might pull hin over and we dont want that do we ..

I asked for help not judgement on a situation you know the bare minimum about. The dog in question was a rescue after its first owner got a new puppy and decided this one wasnt cute enough and was going to have her pts. My client took her in and is giving her a fantastic life but unfortunatley in the last few weeks her arthritis is playing up making it hard to walk the dog. The situation is in no way ideal but this woman loves her dog and it is not up to me to tell her to rehome it, but what I can do is try and help out which is what i've been doing. Luckily i've been in contact with the Cinammon Trust who understand the love and compasion a dog can give an elderly person and havent judged or made unjustified opinions on this case and have offered to help find a walker.

should of thaught about this when getting the dog at 80 years old obviously she couldent walk it with that illness in the 1st place so why get the dog surely someone must of had a chat with the old lady to tell her it may be to mutch to take on at her time in life as for the dog was going to be put to sleep the well who on this earth would get a dog put to sleep because its not cute enought and then be alowed to get an other one well they shouldnt be alowed anouther one but it doesent take away the fact that an 80 year old person that cant look after the dog herself by taking it for walks the poor old dear needs to put her feet up and rehome the dog to someone who can walk it and care for its needs never mind people calling to take her dog for a walk a couple of times a week it needs walking daily i dont mean to offend anyone but this isnt only about the dog its about the poor old owner who isnt well enought to have a dog to tend to

On the grounds that this is an 80 year old woman with an invalid husband, no doubt bringing them into the realms of being 'vulnerable adults', would the CRB rigmarole come into the picture?

Hi Summer will pm you. Scary I dont know if you have ever witnesessed the bond of dog and owner but to say this dog is this womans lifeline would be an understatement. The dog is well fed, played with, trained to a better standard than most dogs I see but unfortunatly like most young dogs pulls like a steam train! I am already doing everything I can to help this situation and just thought that the kind people of Wiki Wirral could help me out! On a slightly different note my Nan is 80 this year and takes her Border Collie out every single day come rain or shine for at least 2 hours so I think maybe I made a mistake in telling people my clients age as this seems to have led to misplaced ageism! Yes in an ideal world she wouldnt have taken on this dog but we dont live in an ideal world and as far as i'm concerned my client is a much better option than this dog being put to sleep.

By volunteer do you mean unpaid? One of my daughters is intersted in dog walking for some extra cash. She is experienced with dogs and has been coming to obedience classes with me for 2 years.

Hello!

Do you still need help? I am an animal lover but due to work and living arrangements can't keep pets.

Would love to assist! My number is 07801481802
