I'm getting married at town hall in 6 weeks - has anyone else been married there? What does the ceremony go like?

I have called them but to be honest they're not overly helpful on the phone, no one's walked me through what happens, where the reading can go, when we need the music for or how many songs or how formal is it!

Thanks !!

yes- i got married there. to be honest i was soooo nervous that i cant remember much. my best memory is 'looking at my wedding band' and thinking 'shit! am married!'. not very helpful to you though!!!
friends have been married there too, after me and were able to 'personalise' it with music etc. however, it was another friend who 'pressed the play button' and knew when to stop it etc. as for regaard of pre-informing the registrar of your intentions- it may be worthwhile popping in there and asking?
you and your be-trothed do 'go in' to speak to the registrar beforehand- to discuss the finalitys- who giving the bride away etc.
the main pont to remember though is that in a reg. office wedding there are time limitations (prob a bit more restricted than a church service).

Good luck- wishing you a fantastic day!! x x

Thank you that's useful - I wasn't aware we got to 'go in' before the wedding again so that'll be useful. I wonder if they'll contact us.

It's only half an hour but I'm just getting nervous already about silly things like walking in, I don't want it to be really formal so I'll be dragging my dad up to the front

guests etc wait in a waiting room until the registrar or assistant comes and takes you into another room which has seating on either side of an aisle 25ft long with a desk at the front
The guests are seated, the groom and his best man stand at the front
Then some bridal music is played and the bride comes in
The bride and groom stand together then and the registrar does the civil ceremony ( I think you only say once " I name take name to be etc"
Then you both sit at the desk and sign the registry book whilst posing for pics and then all go out to wherever you may be celebrating
Best of luck

Christine, I don't know how many guests you are planning but if you are told the room will only hold a certain number then you need to only have that number of guests.
I went to a Registry Office wedding (not local to here)and the couple had invited more than the room held, they would only allow the correct number of people in and the rest had to wait outside! (Actually, they all charged round to the pub raftl )

If you are not having a lavish reception afterwards try Wetherspoons (the Brass Balance) or the Chinese "all you can eat for a £5 in Conway st"

Remember a wedding at Our Lady's years ago. Not all of us wanted to go in the Church and went over the road to the Pacific for a bevvy whilst the formalities were got through. Come time for the actual thing and the best man etc were charging all round Duke Street looking for the groom. I think they found him in the Park View. Anyway, we had several sherberts then went over to see them out of the big house. Confetti wasn't allowed so people had bags of rice, one of our lot didn't take the rice out of the bag, he'd had a few too many, and fetched the bride a right wallop on the head. The Happy Couple are still together and they are great company. Happy memories of a "formal" wedding.

Don't knock it Softy, back in 66 I had my wedding breakfast in the Co-op on Grange Rd, a quick lunch and then off to the World Cup on the tele. Reception in the parlour of the Old English Gentleman on the night time, honeymoon in Liverpool for a week and then back to sea. Priceless......and we're still together.

Absolutely! I don't see the point in spending £15 - £20k on a wedding that falls apart after 2 years. It should be about the partnership not the show you can put on.

In my experience the more lavish the wedding the quicker the divorce. Noticed that amongst friends.

Mine too - definitely spending the money on the holiday to Florida in July rather than on the wedding although our evening do is quite big at Holiday Inn in Ellesmere Port.

Thanks everyone, I am a little scared of the unknown, if I'd ever been to a ceremony there I'd be ok but it's because I don't know what to expect....pathetic I know!!

Mine cost all of £38 and I had to borrow that. It was worthwhile because I was able to take her out to Singapore with me, bargain.

Yeah, but that was in 1911 Bandy.

Only joking spud! I got re-married in 2007 £750 the lot. Day and evening above the Grosvenor. Fantastic day.

Ha ha derek, I flew out then 18 months later sailed back, via South Africa and other interesting runs ashore. The trip back, we did dive a bit and we also drank a lot, Cape Brandy yum-yum!

It was a great day thanks everyone - I loved every minute!!!! The room in the town hall is lovely and it was full of family and friends which made it even more lovely. Thousands of photos - everyone has given us their camera memory sticks and there is just so many, it's fantastic to have that many for the memory!!

I was married in the Wallasey Town Hall - near 20 years ago

Nice place.

Staff were very helpful and pleasant - but they will be strict on timekeeping because there could be others "in the queue".

Quite a big room for guests to watch.

Very good for photos in the room and on the big staircase etc but remember the hallway/ staircase is big and the flash on compact cameras will not cope with a lot

Enjoy
