Does anyone know if you need a license to fish around the coastal waters of Wirral?

You do not need a fishing license to fish in sea water, however you may need permission if fishing from a pier or promenade and not the beach. Technically you need permission from the dock board to fish the docks but I have never heard of anyone being challenged. If you fish in freshwater anywhere, you must have a rod license even if fishing on private land with permission.

You don't need a licence for fishing anywhere around the wirral coast. There are some good fishing places here. If you want to practice go to the sand banks off vale park or the right hand side of the fort. Easy parking there.

I remember in the late seventies some fellas from the Perchrock pub in New Brighton used to sell the proceeds of their fishing in the pub. Plaice 50p a bag for about eight fish. Nicest plaice I have ever eaten. You don't get it that fresh in ASDA.

Try having a dangle on a salmon stream or a trout stream and see how far that gets you. Any fresh water, you need a license, fullstop.

words of wisdom. the strangest one though is needing a license even if you are on a private pond(trout fisheries and the like).

id recomend you get one before venturing out on rivers or lakes/ponds
to sea fish you dont require one locally, but to fish from seaforth you need a mersey docks and harbours permit to be allowed on site

read all about it here

http://www.environment-agency.gov.uk/homeandleisure/recreation/fishing/default.aspx

i do a lot of carp fishing and see the work the EA do for the sport, ive been on waters when there have been oxygen problems in the water and within an hour of a call going off to the Ea from the clubs secretary they have been down with oxygenators for the lake.
