get onto this lad, you cut the middleman out and goto the parts dealer yourself. Senars or partco i use, compare the prices 1st on both, theres e-bay too but then you have to wait for the parts. Get a secondhand head if you can like st beaker said, theres a place in our yard that skims heads for me for £20 so i can sort that, then get someone to fit it all for you, you`l save a fortune doing it this way

I've lost faith in mankind-he (the guy with the original quote) was meant to be family ffs. He still has a buisines to run mate, a lot of peeps think of time as money, so if he`s/they are doing your car, they could be doing someone elses. It`s like you owning a tv shop, your paying say £400 for a tv, but a member of your family want it for £350, you`ll lose money by helping that member out, its nothing personal, its business

I understand that, I'm not one to ask for favours. What I don't understans is he appears to be asking more than what peeps on here think is right. Don't want to dismiss him out of hand cos he's the only onw who has actually seen the engine so far but if the parts for the job cost £600, is $1000 for labour reasonable?

Wouldn`t like to say/wouldn`t know because i do all my own stuff. If your worried about costs why don`t you get the haynes out? Give yourself a try of DIY mechanics? We all help each other out on here, if you come stuck there will be plenty of peeps to give a helping hand.

Took a while to get the job finished but it cost £400 in total, would've been £500 but the guy knocked a hundred off for taking so long to finish it (mind you he did say he had been in hospital).
I'm gonna take great pleasure in getting back to the guy who quoted £1600 for the job.
